Civilization 4 online gaming questions!!!

Ok, so I had Civ4 since it came out but never played it online because I didn't have the internet on my gaming pc. I just got the internet on it today and I just want to know the basics (what programs do I have to use, how does it work). Basically, I'm a newbie in this domain ...

Just go to Multiplayer from the startup menu, then it should prompt you to make a new gamespy account. (If you already have a gamespy account you can use it.) Then it will pretty much redirect you to the lobby. Everything can pretty much be done ingame if your planning on playing "General Public Multiplayer". If you are planning on using Pitboss or such, I am not too familiar with it.

Also, if you are running BetterAI take out the .dll and put it on your desktop or something. Otherwise it will make every game you join be out of sync and everyone will have to quit. (This may have been resolved by now, maybe not - its been a while since I messed with upgrading my version as well as played online)
