I like large island map against the AI but I see a couple of problems in multi player. Domination is going to be very very difficult, even if a player has a big tech and army advantage. Your empire is always going to be very spread, it's very hard to protect it all. Also if other players team up against you, you can't be in 3 places at once fighting, so you are going to lose alot of ships.
