Now, Emancipation has always been an annoyance, granted.
But in vanilla and Warlords on Noble, even with a bunch of civs running Emancipation, I'd get at most +3  for "We demand Emancipation!"
But now in BtS it's more like +7, sometimes +11 !
It's crippling and annoying. I don't bloody want Emancipation and yet I'm forced to or my cities basically shut down (and I get that damn riot event that destroys my towns).

Anyone else notice this? Man, it's times like this I really miss nerve-stapling.

What difficulty are you on, btw? Running my specialist economy I haven't really had to deal with this problem yet on Warlord, though I plan on trying to go Noble here sometime soon.

I think that creating colonies creates more civilizations, which creates more civs that can run emancipation, which makes your citizens more unhappy for not running emancipation.

And why shouldn't they be upset with you for keeping them in servitude while much of the globe goes free?

If true this is a horrible development. Emancipation is the only civic that serves no real use, but merely annoys the rest of the world.

If everyone adopts it it does NOTHING for anyone. It just robs the world of the benefits of every other civic in that tree by "granting" you unhappy people if you don't use it. What fun huh? Gotta love that civic.

If it had a checkbox I'd probably disable it.

100% growth to cottages? That's nothing to sneer at. Especially as a specialist economy begins to lose much of it's attractiveness at around the Emancipation comes available.

Yeah i hate emancipation and 100% growth becomes pointless when you have no more cottages that are not fully grown.

In my last game there was myself and 4 other civs, yet the  kept on growing.

It was only 4-5 in small cities, but my big ones were +9  - We demand Emancipation.
So i had to give up caste system or be crippled. I used my spies to change other civs civics to slavery, yet from what i saw none of them had riots in their cities from not having emancipation and the amount of  in my cities remained the same even though i reduced the number of rivals with emancipation civic.

If you've been playing right, by the time Emancipation comes along your core cities have all the fully developed towns they need.
Besides it's the principle of the thing, I don't like being forced to choose a civic because of some malcontented rabble.

It doesn't do "nothing" exactly. Denying your opponents the benefit of other civics can be a significant advantage for you.

But you Deny yourself those other civics :undecide:

Im a caste system fan, i love workshops, Plus unlimited artists help allot capturing cities for when the revolt is over, it lets you expand culture in 1 turn so everyone doesnt starve

As far as the XML goes, the Emancipation parameter for iCivicPercentAnger has been staying at 400 (percentage) since vanilla, and it is still so in BtS.

I suppose if one really thinks this is something not at all helpful for the game, one can just edit the XML and take it down to 0.

Says the Dictator :p

Emancipation is one of the reasons I try very hard to get Cristo Redentor every game; it means I never have to give up slavery :p

I'm not sure Jesus would approve of that, but meh.

If you feel that way, perhaps this isn't the game for you....

The line to purchase Care Bears Care Quest starts downstairs in the ladies' room. ;)

I've always agreed. I won't say Emancipation is worthless, since double cottage growth is a decent boost, but the more developed your empire is, the less good Emancipation does. It should be the other way around: Developed empires should want to choose Emancipation. I'm perfectly fine with the Emancipation Anger as-is (nothing wrong with Emancipation forcing everyone else to switch over), but there should be more incentive for whoever switches first to do so logically.

City maintinance reduction? Because complex systems of subjugation no longer have to be maintained.

^ It Does cost less than Caste or Slavery

Perhaps if it gave +1 Culture per Town (or even Cottage->Town) A way to strengthen your hold on cities.
or + 1 GPP per Specialist?

@ SlipperyJim now you're forced to use a different civic for no reason.

@ jpk1187 lets see your game setup checks: man up or shut up

to date:

I have never switched to Emancipation, without being forced by either unhappy faces or requested by another leader or by UN resolution.

It does not present a greater advantage than Caste System, esp in BtS

I agree with Mewtarthio & QBurrito city maintiance is what it should affect. Cause if you play it out, at some point every tile you want to be a town, will be.

Then the civic is wasted at that point.
