Food. What gives most?

Im still sort of a noob here. I was just wondering, when
Im placing cities, I like to get as much food as possible.

What things give more food? Mountains, rivers, hills?

Floodplains - Grasslands - Plains - Hills - Coast - Sea - Forest - Jungle - Tundra - Desert - Mountains - Ocean, with no consideration for improvements or bonuses.

Rivers give no food, but they allow irrigation.

The most food one tile can produce, is 7 IIRC. You need a flood plain with wheat, irrigated, and railroaded.

Expanding upon Tomoyo's listing: here's a list with how much food they give. (Note: This is without the Despotism tile penalty of any tile producing 3 or more food/shields/commerce steps down one.

Floodplains: 3
Grassland: 2
Plains: 1
Hills: 1
Coast: 1
Sea: 1
Jungle: 1
Marsh: 1
Forest: 1
Tundra: 1 (Tomoyo forgot this one )

Mountains, Deserts and Volcanoes: 0

Justp360, your wrong. Graineries create food stores which half population growths. It doesn't increase food production.
