Foreign Advisor Oddity

I noticed that the FA advisor in the Advisors screen only tells you the best unit of a certain if you've already seen it, but in the trade window, he tells you the best unit that the civ has regardless of whether or not you've seen it. I know it's not a game breaking thing, but I wonder if the former is how it was meant to be.
