Whenever the AI does it, they never have the settler escorted by units and protect it as it settles.

That makes them vulnerable to quick DOW and gets the forward settlement razed.

But whenever I do it on the AI in return, I always escort the settler and make sure I have a good sized army protecting the forward settlement that way, I ensure it will survive the quick dow from the AI.

Why didn't the developers have the AI do that?

I'm not so sure the AI considers how close it is to your border until after the settlement is down. This would explain why they always give you the "don't settle near me" warning directly after forward settling you (lol).

Simply put, the AI isn't smart enough to escort its Settlers. The only case in which it will even defend its vulnerable cities is if it builds or buys units using its bonuses (at least on higher difficulties). During that time, it is incredibly easy to take down.

As for why the devs didn't cover it, I honestly have no clue. If the Deity AI can manage 8+ units to take down an Encampment, I don't know why it can't use one for escorting.
