Is it related to the Cold War?

Well, this has something to do with the EU I assume.

Maroon is the Eurozone countries,
red are the countries which are part of the EU and in the Schengen but not in the Eurozone,
orange countries are in the EU but not in the Schengen and Eurozone,
green is the EEA (Switzerland is light green because she is part of the Schengen and the EEA but not an EU member)

Ireland is strange tho.

Edit: Ah, the blue countries are part of The Council of Europe, but not any EU related.
Yellow countries are bound to the EU by Customs Union

Edit2: I believe you used this chart as a basis for this map: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Supranational_European_Bodies.png

Visa agreements?

Ireland and Cyprus are in the EU and Euro but not Schengen

Edit: Poor isolated Belarus

Everything is correct!

This is kinda dumb of me and has probably been posted here numerous times before, but I wanted to contribute as well.

Colors imply kind-of-a-scale. Dots imply a binary situation. Pink is special. Grey is no data.

dumb guess - countries that have been colonized ? And by colonized I mean conquered ? :D
