How to make Barbarian leaders pay out even if they are not on top?

So I have two computers both of which run Civ 2. On one computer (desktop windows 10) the barbarians leaders pay out regardless of if they are the ones attacked or not while the other computer (tablet windows 11) they don't pay out when the stack is killed. Where would I find this setting?

News to me. In MGE I've never been able to get money from Barbarian leaders if they were under another unit and I stack killed them. Can't remember anything different happening in ToT either. Not aware of any toggle setting for such a tiny thing either, maybe in ToT it can be messed with via Lua or ToTPP messes with it, but others here can better answer that then me.
