This is a first for me. Neck and neck with Zara in the space race. He launched first, but he only had one engine. I launched the next turn with two engines, but only three casings. My spaceship might have been hanging together with duct tape, but it beat his to the finish line .
Meanwhile another civ was pretty far into making his own spaceship, and another had two legendary cities, so this was a real squeaker of a victory. I've never seen anything like it, usually the late game is kinda boring because I know in advance whether I've won or lost.
Admittedly, this only happened because two of my spaceship parts got sabotaged, and then I didn't optimize well to compensate for that. Still exciting though. I got just the great people I needed to start a very late golden age, then two GEs to instantly finish the space elevator and get the last parts just in time.
