So yeah , for all you Imp fans ( if they exist ) , which is the best Imperialistic civ ?

Well , let me say this before I continue . The Imp trait looks pretty nice on paper but its not all that great in gameplay as other triats easily trump it . However , I recently played a game with a buddy that thrives on the Imp trait . Very few civ players I met that will openly say Imp is their FAVORITE trait . However , he seems to use it quite well .

Naturally , he played Justinian Byzantines . Those hippodromes really come in handy and he is the first person I've seen EFFECTIVELY run a war economy . His strategy with the GGs ( I opened a topic about GGs already , this is related) was to give experiance points to a group of 3 or 4 units to make an elite squad to clean up after the regular units he used for cannon fodder ( think catapults and such) . Leadership is a popular option it seems .

Frankly I was impressed and gained a little more respect for the Imperalist compared to my thinking it was a pretty much useless trait to begin with .

I'm trying some imperialists now just to see how I do . Im just OK , not nearly as effective as some other common strategies I use . Do you guys have tips on maximizing the Imp trait , more than one method preferably ?

I really like the imperialistic trait myself, and I frequently play leaders with it. The ones I go through most are Joao, Genghis, Suleiman, and Justinian. I've tried getting into using Charlemagne, but the protective + imperialistic traits just aren't good for me.

I've played with Suleiman for a long time. I like his ability to expand, either pacifically (by building settlers quickly) or with war (with the bonus obtained by the Generals). Also, Suleiman's unique building allows his cities to grow (+2 health and +2 happiness), and that's great, because he's expected to adopt a Specialist Economy. Give him Parthenon and Great Wall, and he'll take you to victory!

I like Cyrus myself. With Charismatic it's a great combination for growing a large empire with a happy population...

Cyrus trait synergy is just awesome. You can easily have several cities producing highly promoted units with settled GGs. Combined with the Immortal and a decent UB he's a real powerhouse.
Other than that I like Victoria, but I'm in love with Financial so the Imperialistic trait is just extra for me.

Cyrus

imperialistic and charismatic is awesome

with the xp bonus and exta GG, I was pumping out level 5 units every turn in my military city
