Is there a way to skip my cities attacking

I can't seem to pass on having my cities attack units nearby (I want to save enemy unit victims for the exp for my units). I can't seem to "force" the turn either with ctrl-enter as I thought I read you could. Thanks for any help!

Unless this is another vanilla quirk, you should be able to do this. If the city is in attack mode, click on the target to deactivate it. If it's the notification you are having trouble with, just ignore it or right-click on it to remove it.

hmm, can't seem to skip it. I could use another unit but then I get that notification on the bottom right and I can't get to the next turn without making the notification go away. the only way I con do that is to attack. right clicking doesn't do anything.
