JB01 Newb/Rookie C3C training game...

I could take it again. What seems to be the consensus on our next moves though? I, for one, support republic over monarchy. We have four luxuries. We can manage war weariness just fine. I've done wars on emporer on Republic without any luxuries and managed to keep up. Monarchy is a wretched government, and it will quickly get tired and old. I'd rather switch to republic and cash-rush markets and get city pop's up to 7.

Damn I'm an idiot. I want to go Republic.

Ok, Drakdan can take it for now; after that turn set I would like to play. :)

Jb, what do you think of Drakdan's objections to monarchy? Fair?

I think either is fine.

W/ the luxes WW can be managed in Rep. Throwing down more cities and growing to 7 in conquered lands will alleviate support costs.

I don't think Monarchy's all that bad and do trust Gator's assessment.

Right now we seem to have vote for Rep, one for Mon, and I'm ambivalent.

I'm having comp problems right now. All USB ports on my machine are dead. I had to go out and buy a PS2 mouse. Need to get this fixed for other devices.

There is a little device for a few bucks that lets you stick a USB mouse into and then into a PS2 port. I run with it all the time.

Why do we have a number of grassland tiles irrigated? It’s a waste of worker moves unless you’re going to bring the water to plains.......blah........Input?

Is this the right save? 110 AD? If so, I got it.

IIRC I tried to load once the save (but didn't have time to play) and it was turn 133 or something.

I would go for Monarch, btw.

Turn 0: End the Greek-Mongol alliance against the Zulu
make peace and get 23 gold.

Turn 1: Retreat weakened units into cities. Make Roads. Move a lot of units up against Germany. Upgrade 4 horsemen to Keshiks for 360 gold.

Turn 2: Galley meets Spain. They are technologically behind us hurray. I take Lepzig and a settler.

Turn 3: Minor Skirmishes here and there, nothing major.

Turn 4: Establish embassies with Spain and Zululand. Minor Skirmishes again.

Turn 5: Meet Inca. The fact that I've spent 600 gold does not impress me. We are the tech leaders and we shouldn't be at this point. I drop science to zero in preparation for the switch to republic. Revolt. Situation will be under control in 9 turns. Awesome. I move troops next to Leptis Minor.

Turn 6: Alchemists discover Theology. Sword Factory is rioting. Let it - There are no buildings there for them to destroy, and entertaining them would starve the city. There is a carthaginian galley by Ereet. I send a Keshik southbound, and I move workers along the coastline to block the Galley. Likewise, Germany has a galley near Tabriz.

Turn 7: More moving to defend against these annoying Galleys. We can end the Mongol-Greek Alliance against these two nations and sue for peace at any time. Both have had their backs broken, and so far Carthage is willing to trade two cities to us. Germany will trade none, but is on it's way. Taking another city, moving onto a 2nd city, and suing for a third is viable. Sign a ROP with the Incas for 8 gold. ROP with Spain for 30. Both are now Polite. Trade Silks for 113 gold with the Zulu.

Turn 8: Carthaginians land a Numidian Merc next to Tartar. Two swords die against it. Rather than use the Keshik to finish it off and trigger a golden age, I sue for peace. I get 42 gold, Cirta, Cadiz, and Sabratha. Carthage now has two cities left, one on the border of Alexander, whom they are at war with. I sign a ROP with Carthage for 4 GpT. I move all my troops from Leipzig to Munich, leaving it undefended for a turn. I will take Munich.

Turn 9: Turns out that was a miscalculation on my part. I still want war, because I want to trigger my GA. Dammit. I abandon Leipzig. A Medieval Infantry near Batshireet kills my Keshik and captures some Catapults. He is heavily damaged and NOT near Batshireet, thank god. I recapture the Cats. I take Munich and gain a Military Leader. Sent him towards Fort Apache. Germany will ALMOST give us Frankfurt.

Turn 10: I save it here because I played eleven turns last round. I started to play it, but the only major thing I did was kill the medieval Infantry near Batshireet. Graphs and such tell us are are ahead of the Inca in territory and population, but behind in score, meaning they have more happy citizens. Our culture is the lowest out of all the cultures thusfar so we should definitely work on improving that. Germany has been severely weakened, and Carthage is crippled beyond repair. We still have a few turns in Anarchy to pass through before we get to pick a government (Pick Republic. REPUBLIC! Monarchy is just godawful.)

Please do not trigger the Golden Age until we are out of Anarchy. That would be a tremendous loss.

Nine turns of Anarchy! Yuk. Well, the revolt was on turn 5 and you played 9 so there should be 5 more turns to go before we're out.

Please don't anyone worry about playing 9, 10, 11, or more turns if it's seems logical to finish out a major goal. Frankly, I have always looked at having to go through the Anarchy stage as justification to play that many more turns.

I was too busy to play this weekend and will be probably so the first half of the week. Can JB or any other player do the next ten turns. I hope I can subsequently follow. :(

We're about to come out of our Anarchy so I need a consensus on a government.

I would really rather flip to Republic, load a keshik Army, trigger the GA and crush Germany quickly.

We're ahead in techs now and can stay that way through our GA if we dedicate it to infrastructure, many more cities.

I'm using the second Leader on the map to rush the FP in an otherwise corrupt city.

republic.
i have a dream. where the wolf shall live with the lamb, where we shall have huge amounts of towns, all dedicaded to the sciences, where we shall have a huge army that shall be feared world wide.
I HAVE A DREAM!!!!

Republic has my preference,

Great it is still alive! I am near the end of a trimester and I cannot play untill the evening of March 17th. So do not wait for me.

I played up to 400 AD and will load my notes and the save when I get home.

Generated 2 more GL's. GL farming is fun.
Existing GL used to rush FP. Workers improving the grounds.
We have 3 Keshik Armies :ar15: but one is loaded w/ a single Keshik.
Germany is dead 380AD and we triggered our GA in 320AD by crushing a pike.
We're in posession of 5 luxuries. :)
We’re putting a temple in the capitol so we can turn down entertainment to 0%. It saves 34gpt.
Shaka, damn him, has discovered Education so I expect Alex will have it soon and put the GreatLib out of commision.
I nudged up the research slider on Engineering.
I tried to use every shield, loaf of bread and gold coin to build up the infrastructure. Mucho MM'ing.
We're short on settlers to occupy the open lands.
Had a city flip, Fliptus Minor?, back to Carthage.

I abandoned every warrior and most non-elite swords and archers. Elite units that had already popped a GL were also sacrificed for gold.
With our armies I would suggest, for the time being, to abandon the cats in a town that can pump a settler. You get 5 sheilds per cat.

In the open territories I would not automatically mine grasslands. Many of those cities are powerful corrupt man! However, you can't corrupt food! Get them up to size 7+ for unit support and specialists. Then dribble settlers or whatever out of them.

The capitol is producing 30gpt but could be MM'ed to pull in about 4 more. With 12 turns left in our GA we could try and set ourselves up for Leo's or we could produce 6 more keshiks.

Whoever takes this next can look at trades from our pals over the sea. Our rep is in tact so we might get some nice coin for Libs, etc.

Long term goal is still domination so lets do a sanity check to see if this path is the right course of actions. What say you?

Order as follows (correct?)
azzaman333 (2)
Mr David (1.4)
Vaiar (2)
Mirc (1) - Busy
drakdan
jb1964 - Played last

Also, I don't think you said, but you did go to Republic, right? Bravo.

There have been so many skips that I don't really know. I'm sure it's fine if you, or anyone else but me, take it.
