EDIT: It's a DLC which can be turned off if you want vanilla...my bad

Its treated as a DLC addon which I think you can enable or turn off at your behest.

The DLC menu contains Gods and Kings you can toggle on/off, but I've not tried it personally.

Consider G&K a huge patch that fixes and improves and adds so much goodness to the game, that you couldn't imagine going back to the much lesser game it was before. I certainly couldn't.
