[BTS] Just another typical Isolated immortal shadow game with Wang Kon

Some remarks
  • rice should be irrigated by now, it's already 2nd turn after founding and you have 4 workers in the area. What happened?
  • capital is the wrong place to build workers now, it should be working on GLib already
  • in Nampo granary first for sure, also lighthouse is a lot better building there than a library
  • all in all you should be growing as hard as you can post-monarchy. Because of :food:->:hammers: conversion ratio offered by whipping there is no point in slow-building any workers/settlers from now.

What Sampsa said : grow ! (granaries first !)

Also now is time to beeline Optics, no more detour (no CoL)

You need to think of a GP plan. You can easily get the 2 GS required for the Astro Bulb, but aiming for 3GS would be good. Then what will you do with the extra one ? Maybe a golden age to speed up researching optics by a few turn and accelerate GS #2 and #3 ?

Main appeal of the Aest line with marble?
Glib + NE so you can easily get all needed GS (and more later).

Wonsan would be the perfect city for both with it's food, but only 1 forest left.
Looked at the starting save and there were plenty, we missed that opportunity sadly.

Maybe the best solution: granary whip gives 60 :hammers: (30x2 overflow) into Glib.
After that 2-pop Axes for similar overflow, who also cover all the whip anger..until Glib completes.
I would still use Wonsan, should be done after 4 maybe 5 Axes + forest chop.

Could work on a Palace in Pusan after granary.
Central location and more cottages than Seoul.

Spoiler Played to Turn 114 :

Reloaded a bunch of turns back and rectified a few mistakes. This time I went straight for Monarchy before Aesthetics and literature:

From there I went straight to Aesthetics>Literature. Then I went Sailing>IW>MC. I have like 5 Axes in Wonsan and the GL is still 12 turns away. Turns out there's iron near so that helps:

Was I doing the whipping thing right? I whipped the granary, put overflow into the GL as well as the two forests I chopped and Axes. Am I supposed to 2-pop whip the Axes when they're about to be finished or wait for the city to grow to size 4-5 then whip them immediately? Am I doing something wrong here?

You can only 2pop an Axe (no forge), with less than 5h of production into it. It becomes a 1pop whip at 5H. So you need to adjust tiles when you start an Axe such that <5h goes into it. Ideally whip at 4H. If that is 1t of production then great. (looks like you only have 1 base hammer in Wonson anyway.

So what I'd do is start an Axe...don't work iron as that is too many hammers (Seoul can use iron when Wonson is not...it should always be worked by a city), then 2 pop whip the next turn and take back the iron. I think you want to 5>3 whip always so you can always take back the iron that same turn, and never whip off your food.

I'm surprised you haven't had barb galleys yet, but this landmass is so easily totally barb busted...but it is not.

Very good. Unlimited :) gives you a huge payback, due to no :)-resources and lots of nice FIN tiles. On immortal you'll get your GLib anyway after this detour.

You forgot to manage Namp'o better. I want to stress what a massive mistake going for a library there before granary+lighthouse is. A library gives you nearly nothing, a penny per turn at best. Specialist slots and culture are useless for this city. A granary on the other hand... With these tiles, 8:food: per turn :wow: which is worth perhaps 25:commerce:pt at this point. A lighthouse is 2:food: per turn and gives access to several 2:food:3:commerce:-tiles without the need to spend any workerT. It's close whether you even should build a library in this city pre-optics, as you could use the pop for whipping a settler or caravels.

Whipping Wonsan:
  • put 1T of :hammers: into an axe, but it needs to be less than 5, so give iron to capital and work the best :food:-tiles
  • Switch to GLib until you are size 5
  • 2-pop whip the axe
  • put the overflow :hammers: into GLib
  • rinse and repeat
You need to grow the capital! Stop working the mines, they are very mediocre at this point, you are way under :)-cap so you should GROW. Just take the best tiles and secondary cities can work secondary tiles like lakes.

edit: in Cheju, a monument is a bonus, while a granary is a very good building. Maybe you were stuck in this thought that granaries are not great, since they weren't great without monarchy? When you are closing in on unlimited :), granaries become extremely valuable. Thus all your thoughts on managing secondary cities should be around "how to build the granary as fast as possible?".
