Loading saved game "stalls" at 36%

I have Civ III Complete installed through Steam, playing on my Win10 box.

Playing conquests, I have a game where if I try to load a saved game (dated 670 BC), loading just stalls out at 36%. If I go back to a slightly earlier version, say 750 BC, the game loads just fine.

I have no idea where to even look to see what is causing the game load to stall (log files?)

Any idea what is causing this? Or better - how to get the most recent save to actually load?

Sounds like a corrupted save. I would try to play from 670 save and save each turn till you get to 750. See, if the new 750 works ok. If not, then I would try to load each one to see, when the problem shows up. Maybe then you can figure out what occurred.
