Question for any Magic fans out there who have heard of this one: Duels of the Planeswalkers (and its expansion pack, Spells of the Ancients) are basically Magic The Gathering for the PC, with online support, written around the time Windows 98 came out.

Duels of the Planeswalkers will install, but will not run at all on a WinXP machine. Try to run it and it simply blinks back to the desktop without giving any indication at all that the .exe even ran. None of the backwards compatibility settings WinXP provides had any effect.

Has anyone out there had any luck getting this puppy to run on XP? (Magic Online blows chunks--therefore getting that in order to get my MTG fix is not an acceptable option)

Are you sure it wasnt Win 95?
Anyway, you could as a last resort install a bootable partition on your HD to run whichever OS is most applicable. My friend did this and can run Black and White which is impossible to run under XP (no patch, nothing). Obviously it takes up space and will require a reformat possibly if you dont have a partition to spare.
