all the bottoms dissapeared from the main menu. I confirmed with a friend- he cant play neither. wtf?

When I load the game, it looks like this:

Spoiler :

This lasts indefinitely, and I have to pull up the task manager to exit the game.

Why?

Yikes! This is majorly bad. I have the same issue today... It must be related to this morning's update because I was playing last night without problems.

I'm running Windows 7, ATI Radeon 4770. Happens both in DirectX9 and DirectX 10/11 modes.

Civ 5 is currently unplayable!

Yeah, I just realized, more information is necessary...I run the game on dx10 usually...have windows 7, nvidia GeForce 230m. Mine also happens in dx9 or dx10.

It looks like a small update was pushed out just recently (a civworld advertisement in the main menu).

If you're having issues, right-click the game in the Steam library and get it to verify cache integrity. Also try restarting Steam.

Ok, FYI I had Steam verify all files and it reported back that verification failed for 1 file... Steam redownloaded the file and now the menu is back.

I have the same issue. How do you get Steam to verify all files? Thanks.

Nice, I'll try.
Right-click on Civ V icon in Steam, go to Properties, and then click the Local Files tab, and then Verify Game Cache.

This just happened to me too, just verify the files, I'd blame steam for not correctly updating the game.

I don't have a Local Files Tab on mine, just General, Web Document, Security, Details and Previous Versions

Thank God for Civfanatics! Wouldnt have find the answer out myself. Think of all those Civ V players who are wondering what to do to get it working!!

That's because you're right-clicking what I assume is the desktop shortcut. What you need to do is locate the game in the 'Library' tab in Steam. You should be able to open Steam by double-clicking the Steam icon in the system tray.

Thankyou so much :D :D

To be fair, the verify cache integrity setp is probably the most common fix when people are having issues with Steam games especially around the time of game updates, and that makes it a Steam issue. Sure, Firaxis/2K pushed out a fairly useless update but they didn't break anything.
