It comes with preset nations, that might get in the way. I will try what you recommend though.

just compare the map file to a bts map file,
make sure that the stuff from the start is in the same structure up till where the data for the tiles starts.

Yes, but that is another problem. There are tutorials to deal with cleaning a map from Civs or adding new ones etc.

@ Keldath: the file is readable with BtS as such. If you open it in WB and save it there, then it will re-write/add some of the stuff for you in BtS style.
