I played my first game as Venice and it is something I won't try again.

There are some good aspects such as all the trade routes. However, I found it pretty boring with only one city in which you have to build every cargo ship, miltary unit, wonder etc. It just seemed to go on forever.

Yes, the essence of playing Venice is to generate ridiculous amounts of gold from double trade route capacity and then buy everything you need (except wonders, of course) in your puppets (which will themselves stay on gold focus, generating even more gold).

Yes I discovered that towards the end of the game. I bought all the Spaceship parts (Freedom and Space Procurements).. It was a change for me as I'm not used to having so much gold. In hindsight I would have played quite differently.
