I only just got back into Civ and after dominating the world as the Celts on Warlord, I moved up to Regent. I'm playing as the Dutch on a Large 70% Archipelago. Thanks to the power of Curraghs (wow, I already love C3C way more than vanilla) I have already seen the outline of the world and met all 11 opponents. The Ancient Age is coming to a close and I have been pushing my cities to just about the borders with my neighbors on the island, the Iroquois and Byzantium.

The problem is I can't really decide what to do. I picked the Dutch because I was going for a more peaceful route this time after a game dominated by war with the Celts but I noticed the computer is much more adequate on Regent compared to Warlord and it seems I must fight off my neighbors soon. What should I do?

Also, for the last game I had been using all my fringe towns to build workers but after awhile I end up with way too many. But since these towns have such high corruption what else can I do? Wealth seems like such a waste of a town, but I can't find a better solution.

Oh, and I do have Republic but I didn't revolt yet because I calculated that my low population and high army would put me at a bigger economic disadvantage than in Despotism. Should I go for it anyway at the price of slowed research? PS: For the Republic slingshot I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right. Do you get Republic for free just by using the Philosophy free tech, or do you use the free tech on Code of Laws and get Republic for free by having those two techs before everyone else?

EDIT- Hmm, my attachment failed and I can't get it to work. I guess I'll try to upload it to my server.

The Republic slingshot works best if you research CoL before Philosophy and pick The Republic as the free tech from beeing first to discover Philosophy. The Republic is an utterly expensive tech, it takes much longer than CoL, so getting it for free is a great bonus.

In highly corrupt areas, you can plant science farms. Those are towns placed as close together as possible, with all lands irrigated. Ignore the shield output and make as many scientist specialists as possible. You may have already noticed that those yield 3 beakers each in C3C, as opposed to only 1 in vanilla.

I would always want to be in Republic. Still it is possible that a huge army and the lack of size 7+ cities results in an economical drawback. Maybe this can be discussed better once you have the .sav up.

Slingshot is getting CoL first then research philo get republic for free. It's a bit hard on regent as the AI is not researching very fast so they won't learn CoL for you. But they are fast enough to prevent you from researching CoL first then Philo. Only philo give a free tech.

Sometimes it's best to wait a little before switching to republic and first get some cities over size 6. Corrupted cities are great for farming scientists. Another thing you will love in C3C. It's very doable to get research done in the 4 turn minimum just using scientists, giving you the option of getting 100% tax (or some lux).

Oh, and there's no such thing as too many workers. Could also be used to grow you core cities faster by joining.

This is actually a great idea to build workers and settlers in corrupt towns. I always give this advice to newbies. You can never have too many workers. If you improved everything you can join them to your core cities to grow them faster. If you want a peacefull victory just get all your core cities to size12 asap. The build order depends on the circumstances of course, but the general advice is aqueduct(if needed)->harbour(if you can work many coastal tiles)->lib->market->uni. But i wouldn't advice playing too peacefully. At least conquer your island. Corrupt towns may seem useless, but as i said they can build workers, they can build wealth and they pay for unit support. If you are not scared by micromanagement use ICS in corrupt areas and hire scientists. They are very powerfull in C3C and each provides 3 beakers. With irrigation/railroads you can support a lot of them.

About how many units should be in my attack force for Regent or Monarch? It's readily apparent that the computer is much more ample than on Chieftain and Warlord and that susequently it will require more than a 10-15 man invasion fleet to kill most of a civ.
