Nobles' Club series started out as a way for Noble-level (and below) players to improve their game. Most of the original participants now play at much higher levels, so this has become a way for advanced players to help others learn to play better. You can play your own game at any level and with any mod, but it would be nice to comment on the games of other players and give them advice.

Our next leader is Frederick of Germany, whom we last played in NC XCV. The Germans start with Hunting and Mining.

  • Traits: Frederick is Philosophical and Organized.
  • The UB: The Assembly Plant, a Factory with +4 Engineer-Specialist capacity instead of two. This one comes avaible in late game too. Good combo with SE and Fredericks PHI trait..

  • The UU: The Panzer, a Tank with SPECTACULAR +50% advantage against other armour units, like tanks. Still its very hated unit because 1) Its late game UU. 2) Tank vs. Tank battles aren't usual..

And the start:

Spoiler map details :
Hemispheres
Spoiler edits :
No edits were made because I posted a wrong map :D.
Finally, a cut and paste of our standard doctrine:The WB-saves are attached (zipped; they are bigger than standard saves). To play, simply download and unzip it into your BTS/Saves/WorldBuilder folder. Start the game, and load your favorite MOD (if you use one, if not, check out the BUG MOD), select "Play Scenario", and look for "NC CXXII Frederick Noble" (or Monarch, etc., for higher levels). You can play with your favorite MOD at the Level and Speed of your choice. From Quick-Warlord to Marathon-Deity, all are welcome! We stuck with the name "Nobles Club" because it has a cool ring to it.
Spoiler what's up with specific difficulties :
In each scenario file you can select your level of difficulty, but that doesn't give the AI the right bonus techs by itself. Use the Noble save for all levels at and below Noble. The Monarch save gives all the AI Archery. Emperor adds Hunting; Immortal adds Agriculture; Deity adds The Wheel.

For players on Monarch or above, you should add archery as a tech for the barbarians (if you don't, the AI will capture their cities very early). This cannot be done in the WB save file and must be done in Worldbuilder as follows:
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
Spoiler huts and events :
Note: The standard saves have no huts and have events turned off. If you want tribal villages and random events, choose the saves with "Huts" in their names. If you want huts but no events, select the Huts saves and use Custom Scenario to turn on the option that suppresses events.

Reserved. I have a question Dalamb: Should I put link to Bismarck or Frederick game to 2nd link place? If I did it wrong it will be fixed.

Nice starting location, but I'm not sure how...
Spoiler :
this cooked of a map will go over, by that i mean u making a lot of edits, usually a few here or there are good but a lot, well.... we will just see how it goes over.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic but generally speaking people don't like cooked maps.

Edit: Why two threads?

Actually, 3 threads no idea why they are all added for. But here I might just SIP since I like this. But heck I know very little about starting locations. SIP 100% of the time xD

Yep, I won't be playing this one. This ain't overcooked, it's burnt to a crisp

I hope AZ likes this start or the map gets changed, he never played a german leader on deity so far, i'm so looking foward to this...:)

NOOOOOOO!!!! Double posting strikes again..... And you poor poster chose this thread with wrong name and no save file  ! I SCREWED UP AGAIN!!!!! MODERATORS!!!!! Help and destroy some of these two threads! I'm so screwed, oh dear! I've been warned about bad language before so thats it :(. I'm dead if Dalamb saw what is going on here....

People complain so much about cooked maps lol.

I remember back when I threw minor civs with theology as a starting tech onto the maps, or the one time I gave a minor civ (atlantis) astro, maoi, dike, lighthouse, and trading post :D. It was fun times, and a lot more fun than a "randomly generated map giving one AI 23% of the world's land before it fights a single battle".

For some reason I've never heard a rationale to support, people prefer the latter regardless of map balance.

no worries about double/triple posting, it happen sometimes on slow machines/inet connections.
I'm intrigued by your heavy editing, why did you edited that much instead of rolling the dice a few more time ? (or change the map script)
I will give it a shot anyway, sometime next week. I kinda like Frederick's traits, I barely never used his UU, I tend to finish my games prior reaching tanks.

About the start, it call for a SIP afaics, Techs would be ag - The Wheel - Pottery - BW - then masonnery maybe

Double posting is ok to me too but this thread is named WRONG!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!! I called R_Rolo here if he can fix the name. I'll move the zip. to here tomorrow.

i have no problem with cooked maps, as long as the game itself plays out interesting. the three things that can make me queasy about a map are:

  • continents/hemispheres separated by astro where a single continent founds 6+ religions. i dont dislike these mapscripts in and of themselves, but they can turn out badly if luck goes the wrong way. (see: the tokugawa nobles club game)
  • way way way too much land (see the last joao NC game and the current suleiman)
  • super barb madness in situation ill-suited to deal with it (no copper, no horses, nor even a gold mine, gems, or accessible cottages to help get an early archery without it being an ordeal)

and, of these, only #2 is a real dealbreaker for me. just don't have the time to handle that many cities or the attention span to deal with a grueling intercontinental war!

deity 800 BC

Spoiler :
Semi isolation and way to much land :( Oracled CoL and prepared for a Lib game, but I need trading partners and no neighbour that gets 20 citys^^ Willem also founded hinduism+judaism and I obv founded confuzianism, so part of the map is probably altogether in buddism.
In my humble opinion i would say this is another map that is not made for deity.
Haven't teched AH, so I don't know if there are horses, but it's probably possible to take out Willem early and settle all the land, while some AI on the other part of the map gets a cultural victory :p

I vote for a classic pangae map or maybe fractal, this would also be better as learning experience for you noble and prince guys, just saying...
Plz make another map with the same leader i have really looked forward for good old Freddy.
'Der Alte Fritz' deserves a deity kind of map

well, im not gonna complain about the map, but I probably will view it through worldbuilder in case this is another map where i have room for 15 cities without a fight, its a learning experience, but it makes the game long and tedious and you need an army of workers, and certain wonders seriously seem to change the game when you have a massive civ like that without a fight. To be honest, i havent looked at the map, but as for "cooked maps" or ones with too much land, adding a civ or two, could normally solve most of those problems without alot of issue... keeps one civ from getting 30% of the land, and when theres more civs, having an extra FP and gold isnt as big a bonus because of the trading that is sure to go on. just my 2cents, hopefully ill play it as soon as im finished the iu game

map spoiler
Spoiler :

/e bleh i had a look at the map, there seems to be alot of bonuses and stuff, but its the same for all the civs anyway, so its not as big a deal i guess, though it seems we have alot more room to expand than some of the others. While thats true, it will probably take quite a long time to meet some of the civs, so that should offset some of the trading problems. Ill probably play it if i get bored, but ive been a bit frustrated with civ so we'll see :(

Spoiler :

Well i liked it at first.. but i just realized on the diffuculty i play now i boxed in willem and had a gigantic area to expand to, i can win with a spacerace victory without even having to go to war once. So i actually just got bored since it become a tad too passive for me. Then again i guess i should polish my 2015 spacerace record victory time in a almost no attack game :>

Deity, 425BC...
Spoiler :

...Willem declares out of the blue at pleased. There was no plotting. Gg. I knew he was going to come after me at some point, but this was too early for me to be able to handle it.

Is this piece of AI behavior explained somewhere? I'd be thankful to whoever referenced to a thread/post doing so.

Reserved. I have a question Dalamb: Should I put link to Bismarck or Frederick game to 2nd link place? If I did it wrong it will be fixed.
The 2nd link is always the last time we played the same civ, if it's not the same leader. So if Bismark were the most recent German leader, he's the one who goes 2nd.
Yep, I won't be playing this one. This ain't overcooked, it's burnt to a crisp
I used to overedit maps, too. Over a couple of years we negotiated a short list of edits people generealy thought were OK. It's in one of the spoilers in the first few messages of the bullpen. If mapmakers stick to that list, there won't be a whole lot of complaints (except from obsolete).

I hope AZ likes this start or the map gets changed, he never played a german leader on deity so far, i'm so looking foward to this...:)

he played fredrick awhile back im certain... i played the same map on imm, it was a start next to shaka and darius, and most people settled on the marble, id find the link but its probably buried somewhere.... id look to see if he won but i dont think he did, starting next to shaka and getting boxed in ruined his game i think. If you go to his youtube acct, you can have them all listed by date... and then find them aroundabouts in a the nc/iu listings
