Resource diversity grants twice as much gold for Portugal in trade routes.

What exactly does that mean? What resource diversity, where? This it very frickin confusing.

Trade routes give more gold the more resources the connected cities are working. Portugal's UA doubles the amount from the different resources. Basically it just gives you more gold for trade routes.

More accurately, they give more gold for resource diversity - how many resources each city works, that the other city doesn't. Basically, if both cities work bananas, it won't increase the income, but if just one of the cities work bananas, it will increase the income for the city's owner. For portugal, this income is doubled. So it encourages the portoguese player to work as many resources as possible. I'm still not sure if the Feitoria synergizes with it.

It only applies to strategic & luxury resources. Banana is a bonus resource so that doesn't count for resource diversity.

you get instead of 0,5 gold per resource 1 if you establish a trade route.

diversity means, only every resource counts once. you cant get more then 1 gold per different resource per route.
