Random map

What exactly does choosing the 'random map' option do? Does it pick a script at random and use that, or is it a script in itself?

I ask because I've played four or five games with it, and it always generates worlds with a couple of continents, a few islands, etc. Very, very unoriginal and unexciting.

I thought I'd be getting desert planets, ones with all land and little water, long snaky archipelagos - you know, a random script.

I thought it just makes the map 'type' random. As in pangaea, cont, plains etc.

It says it chooses any script other than earth. I highly doubt this, can anybody confirm this?

I have used it and got at least all the basic map types. Earth might be the one it doesn't make.

Still don't know if it has been broken in some recent patch. I have been selecting the map type to get the achivements as you can't get them if you play random maps.
