Running Civ4 on Vista

I just got a new computer and which has Windows Vista. Apparently, Civ4 has some compatibility issues with Vista and would not work. Does anyone know a fix for that?

Odd enough because it is officialy confirmed to work. Do you use 32 or 64 bit Version? Did you already try out the compatibable mode?

i have no problems at all with civ 4 on my vista laptop

the installation worked beautifully, and the game runs way better on this machine than my last one (probably due to the 2gb of ram, the better graphics card and the faster processor)

I called Civ4 tech support and nothing they've suggested worked... not sure why... btw, my Vista is 32-bit. I ended up buying Civ4 Warlods expansion pack and that solved all compatibility issues.

Hello there,

I am a huge fan of Civilization and I started playing this game on an Amiga,
ever since I played all versions.
Recently I bought a new computer with Vista pre-installed and this is when
the nightmare started for me. Before that I played on my XP laptop.
By the way the CDs are store bought.

I cannot play that game anymore on my new computer. I do know about the
wrong labeled CD and the compatibility modes in vista.
I tried both CDs and the CD 1 is the one, which brings up the loading screen and then after a while it shows the message that the correct CD should be put in. However, the CD 2 shows this message as well, but without the loading screen.
I also read a lot online about issues with various graphic cards, which
would not allow the game to be loaded, but I am not sure if that is my problem.

Apparently there are so called RC1 and RC2 updates, which will fix this
issue combined with the patch installation 1.09.
Well, my question is what can I download / do to play this game on my Vista
PC?
Are these RC1/RC2 updates available and if so where?

Please help me I read and searched a lot and everybody who had problems had
different video cards or PCs or complete different issues.
Here are my specs:

Vista Home Premium 32-bit version
AMD Athlon live dual core 64bit
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
3Gig RAM.
DirectX 10

Apparently per the last post the expansion pack War Lords seem to have helped someone ?

Any help or input I would greatly appreciate.

Just buy the Warlord expansion pack... it's only $20. It solved all compatibility issues for me.
