1. Caricyn (good capital, grows faster than Moscow)
2. Moscow (gift to Arabs on turn 2 then get your flip army.)
3. Kherson (can move 1w to iron hill, better in early game)
4. Minsk (no indy Kiev this game, cottage powerhouse)
5. Branjsk (fur)
6. St. Peterburg(cottage powerhouse!)
7. Sverdlovsk (after education)
8. Tot'ma (yet another cottage powerhouse! 1-2 farms can help it grow)

With these 8 mega cities in core you never have to worry about expansion penalty before domination victory.

not related to your strategy but why Magdeburg still exists in your game? doesn't the spawn of the Prussians removes the city for Berlin

When spawned, usually Russia can only meet Byzantine, the Norse, or even Korean. Meeting the Arab was lucky, though

With luck you can meet a camel archer and found & gift city on it on turn 2, then you can flip it!

By the way, now I think this is the maximum optimal placement for now: Moscow on 1W, found Sarapul (on oil) to prevent Kazan spawn. Tot'ma and Sverdlovsk not founded in this screenshot yet. Sverdlovsk is no longer good since the clam has removed, you can still found it later. We can still cram another city 3E1N from this Moscow.

A couple of questions:

Does the transsiberian railway still work for a UHV with Moscow one tile to the west?
If not isn't the city 1 south of Brjansk (Spas na Kholmu) a tiny bit better (on a hill and shared cow with Moscow) ?
And when deciding to build Spas na Kholmu do you think Kirillov (1NE of Brjansk) is still worth building?

Why not build Garicyn 1n on the hills?
Better early production and defence in exchange for early food (Sverdlovsk can use the sheep)

Is Sarapul now in the core?
If no then isn't a city one or two south a bit better because it has acces to iron (and stone and spices) ?

And what is your opinion on the cities of Tver (2SE of St Petersburg and 2NE of Minsk) and Joshkar-Ola (2NE of Original Moscow and 2N3E of slightly better placed Moscow) to accelerate cottage growth?

1. I think not, but you won't get 2/3 UHV before d victory anyway.

2. Maybe, but Moscow needs that cow.

3. Caricyn on hill is also good, but not optimal, and we are not going to build Sverdlovsk early since the clam has been removed.

4. Sarapul is not in core. Akjubinsk (1s from stone) will cover iron and stone and silk and the flood plain.

5. You can try.

Man I have never tried to gift a city before the flip. Thats super gamey,Ill have to try that. lol

Emperor/epic midgame.

How to prevent AI from building Versailles and the Taj Mahal?

1. Research printing press (partially bulb by 3rd GS) and gift it to AI to found Protestantism -- failed in this game: Holy Romans didn't convert.

2. Attack and destroy Mughals before they build it -- forgot in this game. Will do it next time.
