SGOTM 19 - Unusual Suspects

Playing AD1250 partially completed. I will be back later.

IBT: Marsin captured and Peace declared.
Alex split his stacks, with 8 elephants and other units going to tile next to Marsin. Nice that there isn't a road in it, so that army is stranded for a turn. :D

Declared war on Alex (got it right this time). Our 47 cav stack teleported away from the one horse archer in the tile. no problem still close enough
Killed his units in Samsun and vicinity.

Don't see his HA that was in our territory. Either "hiding" in Kubla fog or went all the way home.

OK, almost done. Consulting on one final question.
Just spent some time figuring out how to spread to our last ten cities in minimum time and with the money we have. I can do it in 3 more turns. Let's assume I am on turn 0.

We are told that we are allowed to spread the Corp on the final turn after victory and "one more turn" before saving for submittal.
There is also a chance for a corporation to fail to spread. I did a forum search and didn't find much. Does anyone know the chance? Is it less likely to fail going to our own cities on our own continent with no other corps in the city?

OK, do we want to gamble and spread the corp in our last 5 cities on the turn after I complete the conquest? Or play it safe, spread to all cities, then capture/raze final city?

I will play the next two turns now (but won't end turn). Then check back and see if we want to be bold or cautious.

edit: note that we haven't had any failures so far; if it is like religion, then religion always spreads to a city that doesn't already have one; since the question was asked and answered, I expect other teams to do this, I am in favor of bold.
 
IMHO: we can spare one more turn for the finish :)
we are in competition for top teams so...

The story of Antalya
Left the city empty in hope Alex would take it and raze it. [note, also left Toledo empty and he never went for it]
He left a stack in the forest across from it (3LB, 2HA, 2WE). Nice that we don’t have to deal with them.
That stack never moves.
1340 - So, I build an archer and move it next to his stack.
IBT - Success, stack kills archer and moves.
1350 - I whip another archer to reduce city size to 1. And leave Baghdad alive hoping he will take and raze Antalya.
IBT - Next turn he kills archer, captures, and keeps the city.
Note that it did not autoraze because it had once had a population >1 (2) (oops, if I’d realized we didn’t want to keep it…).
He keeps the city as his capital is ready to fall. So, Arabia lasts a couple extra turns (with lots of associated war weariness)
1370 fail to retake Antalya (not enough troops, low probability attack)
1380 finally Antalya is ours again, no option to raze (like I said, because it has our culture and/or was size 2)
1400 spread AlumCo to Antalya

certainly not complete and some cities my not be listed. with all the combat, I don’t think the logs are worth posting.
Note there was a lot of unit deletion and pillaging the last few turns.

1250AD (cont) – Oh, it is Kubla that made peace with Napoleon (not Alex)

IBT: AP Demand return of Seville to Spain, I Defy (it has coal)

1260 - many units healing, Capture and keep Diyarbakir

IBT: vote Fails (because Defy) vote was 186 to 23 with need of 142

1270 - raze Mecca, raze Marsin
AlumCo spread to Gold City

IBT: Alex big stack attacks my big stack across river [edit, note this is his second big stack, with WE and Macemen; recall he had split his stack, we killed his stack in Marsin, then healed up a few turns from his other stack]

Our victory will either be 1420 or 1430.
I was previously planning on being cautious. But if it is like missionaries... And no failures so far. However, as they say about the stock market: "Past Performance is no indicator of Future Success"

Yup. I play slowly. About an hour per turn during the big fights. But it was lots of Fun. :D

Well, I think it should be unanimous. Unlikely it would drop us one place, like from 5th to 6th. And would be a shame if it disqualified us. So, I will be cautious. I have a half hour before leaving for lunch. Here goes.

Spreading Corp was limiting factor. We could have saved at least 5 turns (for GoToJail to come out of revolt) if we had realized how to get to it sooner. Plus more if we had committed to AlumCo sooner. Well, those Sushi cities maybe added just a turn or two.

We had some disagrements on global strategy but we went good given our lack of "top player".

For my particular point of view, it was very intersting to be mutch more involved in the global strat than the previous games. It felt good (even if i was wrong on some points).
I liked that small team experience :)
