How exactly does one go about using the stack commands. When I select a unit that is on the same square with other units - I try hitting J, or X, or Shift-J, or Shift X, but NONE of them ever move more than the one unit I have selected. I do get the movement circle and red line for me to direct the destination, but only one unit ever moves. What going on here?

You're probably using the stack command on a stack of forted units. Wake then all, then use it.

and J is all units, Ctrl-J is same type.

Also, if those units are already obeying a go-to order that's not yet complete, the stack option won't work - at least, in my experience.

Are you sure? If this is correct, then you must be talking about PTW or C3C.
I have vanilla Civ, 1.29f, and have always used only J, which moves ONLY units of the same type. I'm 100% sure of this.

Thank all of you for your responses. As it turns out I needed to wake the units up. I did not previously know about that requirement.

Thanks!

That's right, 1.29 VC3 only has the 'J' command.
