Stage6 shut down and according to Sky News:

"Stage6, which tried to take on Google's YouTube has had the plug pulled by DivX due to expensive running costs."
"The site, [...] offered DivX content for users to download in high-definition."

:cry::cry::cry: R.I.P. Stage6 :cry::cry::cry:

I really liked Stage6 because of all the documentaries and BBC programs that had been uploaded there.

So, will anybody else miss Stage6?

There are hundreds of other sites out there. But S6 had a nice setup.

Never heard of the site.

Its too bad. Good thing supload, vimeo, broadcaster.com, Google video, viao (or whatever its called) and all those Japanese sites still exist.

Stage6 was the best video site on the net with very fast load times and HD quality but I guess they just didn't make money as well as had legal trouble for hosting copyrighted material. I also loved how stage6 was located in San Diego just like me so downloads were even faster for me due to my being located so close to their servers.

Stage6 you will be missed.

That's too bad cos it was a really cool and efficient site. Video quality was much better than youtube.

It was the only place I knew with HD capability for every single video on the site plus most of the content providers made sure to upload HD versions of TV and movies. It was great while it lasted.

Thanks for the tip, people are already looking for an alternative. It's just that it will be very hard to replace Stage6 (great content, free downloads, amazing speed and incredible resolution)

I agree, when I read that Stage6 had been shut down I felt devastated all those cool documentaries gone.

One problem was that Stage6 allowed porn, Stage6 was overrun with HD porn. Now, nobody will advertise on a porn site and it attracts the wrong demographic. Youtube didn't allow porn for this reason.

I don't know why video sharing/streaming websites feel the need to allow porn. Aren't there enough places on the internet to find free porn? I guess HD porn is better though... There should be a site dedicated to the upload of free HD porn. Not that I'd visit it, of course, but for the sake of all the other, non-porn HD sites...

I agree, if the user wants porn go to Red Tube or something, in the end Stage6 was wasting 1.2 GB of bandwidth to upload 60 minutes of HD porn, where is the return on that cost??? Nowhere, nobody advertises next to porn.

Had Stage6 banned porn videos like Youtube did, Stage6 would have lasted a lot longer.
