stMinionNES2: Bigger, Better, Betterer

Update 1 - 3900 B.C.

At around this time, man has developed agriculture. Tribes of nomads settle down and contain themselves to certain areas, creating towns and villages. With more time to think, civilizations begin as people develop into more sophisticated societies.

In Italia, the Romans become known as masters of bronze, the prominent metal in the world. They create armor out of the metal, which makes them superior to their barbaric neighbors. A series of marches South more than double their borders. To the North, farmers encounter the Etruscans.

In Brunei, hunters turn their weapons to service the newly established Brunei chiefdom. The army is increased and much of the coastal areas are now under the Brunei banner. Around them, several other tribes join to form more sophisticated communities.

In Poland, the tribally oriented Poles are united under a Chiefatin Mieszko. He quickly establishes a new goverment, despotism, and proclaims himself Emperor of all the Poles. His armies subjugate several other Slavic tribes, and more than double Poland's populations. There are rumors of water to the North, as well as many other nations all around them.

In central Asia, a branch of the Indus people establish a Mauryan nation. It's leader Chandragupta sets out to find out more about the world around him. He encounters minor tribes, some of which eagerly join his great nation. A great marketplace is started in the capital to accomodate the Mauryan merchants.

In Mesopotamia a new leader, Hammurabi, takes over the wealthy city of Babylon. Through trade, the city grows ever richer. An alliance is forged with the Sumerians to the South, but the warlike Assyrians in the North refuse to even entertain Babylonian emissaries.

In Japan, the Japanese people unite around the magnificent city of Kyoto. The ruler, Shogun Yamato has taken great care to upgrade Kyoto's infrastructure and it is now one of the most advanced cities in the world. The island which they are on is divided among several other groups. The Mori to the West, the Tokugawa to the East, and the Oda to the North, although barbaric all stand in the way of any attempt to unite the whole island.

In China, the Xia Chinese unite behind a powerful new ruler. He immediatly starts a great new project, the forbidden palace, set to be completed in the distant future. The Xia expand everywhere, but encounter some trouble with the Yo tribe in the Northeast. To the South there are rumors of a great civilization.

In a land called Egypt, two kingdoms arise. Lower Egypt in the North is well structured and orginized, while Upper Egypt in the South is more powerful and better led. Both expand and discover the beuty of the Nile River that they reside on.

In Southeast Asia, the religious Khmer unite behind King Paramesvara. A relegious man himself, he orders the construction of a great Temple. His people expand to the South, not finding any water yet, but hearing many tales of a great sea.

On the island of Java, the Majapahit unite behind King Raden Vijaya. The early kingdom is slightly inactive, but the people increase their economy and population and expand along the coast anyways.

In Thrace, the Thracian people unite behind a new leader and expand in all directions. The land is forested and hilly but there are many rich fields in the Southeast.

In Greece, the Athenian people expand South towards a peninsula called Sparta. Noboy is sure why it's called that untill they learn of a powerful city state to the south. Still, they make good initial progress.

The wise people of Srivijaya rightly guess that the land they are on is an island, and begin to expand to the West. Through careful tactics and a large army, they gain much land.

The long tradition of Lydian seafaring starts, as the Lydians begin to settle the islands around them. A particularly large expedition was sent to a mythical island in the Southeast, but no news have been heard from them yet...

Not much happens in Israel. The people go around practicing their strange one-god faith as they have for as long as anyone could remember.

Story:
Shogun Yamato stood outside the site of his soon-to-be-grand palace, surveying the construction both of his future home and court and the building of the wall that would protect the city from foreigners. His top advisor, Hidodeki Katsui, approached him. "My lord, we have word from our scouts. A number of barbarian warlords have arisen throughout the countryside. They seek to establish their own nations and overpower us." Yamato turned to look at his cherry blossom tree and considered the news. "This cannot stand," he decided after long contemplation. "I will set a precedent for the future. Prepare 800 of our finest spearmen and archers. They will march west against the Mori at dawn tomorrow. Leave 200 to garrison the city. We will show these barbarian chieftains who is the true ruler of this island. Give the order that when our army captures the barbarians' capital they are to burn it to the ground. They are to offer the chance of Japanese citizenship and military service to any man of the town who wishes, and are to slaughter those men who resist. The women and children are to be unharmed, but those who resist our forces will be put into slavery. Will this not prove to the world that Japan is both mighty and merciful?" And with that the advisor left, and Yamato returned to surveying his public works. The walls, unfinished as they were, already looked intimidating, and the busling marketplace in the center of the city was packed with shoppers and merchants peddling their wares.

Diplomacy:
To Tokugawa:
Greetings, Nipponese brothers! The Eternal City of Kyoto and the Crysanthemum Empire of Japan have noticed your interesting little nation and wish for friendship with you. The evil Mori to our west seek the destruction of both of our cities, the enslavement of both of our children, and the rape of both of our women! Let us not waste energy on petty quarelling when their is an enemy to destroy! I, Yamato, offer you an alliance. Do you accept?

Orders:
-Continue to build the palace, walls, temple, and parks of Kyoto.
-Offer incentives to farmers for producing more crops. This will stimulate competition and extra work from the farmers, increasing the economy.
-Send 800 spearmen and archers west to invade the barbarian kingdom. Burn the enemy capital to the ground and do with its citizens as is outlined in the story.
-Garrison Kyoto with the remaining 200 troops.
-Halt expansion temporarilly until the western barbarians have been defeated.
-Offer an alliance to the Tokugawa.

From Tokugawa
To Yamato Japan

Greetings Shogun Yamato. We will send our 300 man army to assist you in your conquests.

To Tokugawa:
May your ancestors bless your crops and protect your troops! The addition of your forces will ensure a swift defeat of the evil, warmongering Mori gaijin. I am indeed glad for your friendship.

Changes to orders:
-Expand east to the Tokugawa border. Do NOT engage in any border skirmishes with the Tokugawa as settlers are prone to do. Any Japanese settler caught fighting with the Tokugawa will be immediately executed by way of public disembowlment.

Edit: This will be my last post for the next few days. Off to sunshine and margaritas. :) I doubt I will have much diplomacy to deal with. ;) If their are more updates, my orders are to wage war against the Mori, continue to build up Kyoto, and grow the economy every turn.

To Etrusca
From Rome

Ay, the feeling is mutual. Together may we be prosperous as others fight eachother and make themselves weak. Would you like to set a line stating where our nations will meet when we have expanded?

Egypt

In the great desert a treasure had been found by Upper Egypt. This treasure they named the nile river. With its abundant water supply they could thrive. With the now improved army,Egypt was much stronger. Another discovery was that of another nation calling themselve lower egypt. They asked for borders. Nomarch Mery thought this a good idea as he was not a warmoungerer. He also thought a friendship with them would be profitable. But back in thebes plans for a great structure were under way. They would be built in the new city of luxor. They would be called the Karnak Temples.

Upper Egypt to Lower Egypt: Borders sound good.

Orders

increase economy by farming along the nile
set up villiages along the nile for the farming
expand north set up borders with lower egypt
establish city of Luxor
start wonder "Luxor Karnak Temples" +3army +3navy +2culture (turn 1/?)

Athenae

The great Athenae civilization was coming into the light. The city-state of Athens, long being a cultural and trading center of the mediterranean, has finally risen up to become the number one most powerful city in the Aegean region. Boasting of a two thousand man army, the Athens outnumbered their neighbores to the north, Thrace, and the Spartans to their south put together. And soon the Athenians would show this.

***

Athena towered over the city like the Goddess should. The towers and columns rose from the ground to a proud hieght that would express the power and ingenuity of the Athenian people. Emperor Pericles examined the papyrus scrolls that the Acropolis designs had been sketched upon. Yes, he thought, this will do. This will be the remarkable center piece of my empire. Rolling it back up, he began to lift himself from the marble table he had been sitting at when he summoned for his advisor, Simicles. Walking with a piece of papyrus scroll in his hand, he began to listen to his Emperor's words.

"Terenumus tells me of a people to the south, guarded in the city of Sparta, is this correct?"

"Yes m'lord. To our knowledge."

"They linger on our land? Send the Athenean Guard, we shall teach them what it is like to mettle on Athenian grounds."

"M'lord, this Spartans are well-trained soldiers, I suggest we send much more then a hundred troops. Perhaps eighteen times that, m'lord."

"I see, you say these Spartans are a match for Athenian soldiers? It will be a cold day in hades before Athens bows down to such barbarians. Send our army, and muster up another thousand here. We will wipe these Spartans from Zeus's eye."

The scribe left the room and spoke at once to the high commander of the Imperial Forces of Athens. He then sent the horn cry for the army to muster outside the gates.

In a week the army had mustered outside the gates along the small, swift farmland of the outer-Athens region. Assembling into hoplite divisions, the soldiers fastened their helmets and shiny bronze plates to their chests, raised their spears, and began to march in unison to the beat of a drum. The commander marched along with them, defused into the crowd. He wore a helmet with five jewels incrested within. As they marched, it created a line of bronze-colored soldiers extending out into the horizon. Many of the families of Athens followed them, and upon reaching the town of Corinth they built homes and populated the city.

It was the time of Athens. And Pericles would prove it with the victory over Sparta.

ORDERS
Send 2,000 men against Sparta in the south. This should be a relatively surprise attack since they shouldn't be expecting such a force.
Increase army and keep them in Athens.

The Capitol was growing fast. With the start of a new wonder many jobs had been created. The people from all around India came to the marketplaces of the Mauryan Empire to trade their goods. You could get various things, from food to weapons and the a special Institution called "The Guard" was always present to punish cheaters. Only few thieves harrassed the traders and if a thief got captured the King had to decide what to do with him. The normal punishment was to hack the right hand of the thief, but sometimes the priests needed a present to the cruel war god "Kschadraka". These kind of presents were not common and the King had already thought about forbidding them. He had something in his mind he called "The law", but he was not sure how the Law should stay in Maurya if his body was gone...

But for now he had more important problems. Some tribes in the east refused to join his empire. He had sent a messager, but he expected that the tribes would refuse his offer. There was only one way... War! The 1000 Soldiers of the Mauryan army were not realy organized, but to beat these barbarians it would be enough. The King ordered his best man to command his troops. Jashko was his name and he had beaten a Indian Lion without using his sword! The soldiers loved him and the would follow him everywhere. The King ordered his smiths to make more bronze weapons, becasue he needed more man for futur invasions. But for now His 1000 soldiers should be more then enough.

Together we are strong! Join our alliance! Think of the people!

Hammurabi was welcomed by the Sumerians. The ambassadors were giving grapes and were given rest on some of the finest palacial couches. A meeting which was supposed to last an hour lasted three hours. A strong alliance was forged. The economy was growing splendidly through farming and trade with the wise Sumerians. But a military force was needed, especially with the evil Assyrians secretly planning for world domination. Bronze weapons were forged, javelins were produced, and bow and arrows were skillfully created by blacksmiths and fletchers and woodsmen. The Army of Babylon grows....

The Glory that is Rome

With the completion of the Military Academy, the Roman juggernaut became an effecient machine with enough men to be the reigning power in the region. The Academy trained a soldier known as the Roman War Legionary. A soldier who was equipted with a spear, a bow and bronze armor. They were highly skilled in both weapons and highly trained as a unit. They fought with tactics, which were unused before this time. An example of these tactics can be displayed in a battle with a rival to the south called Naples.

Naples had become a power in the south of the Italian Peninsula. They had dared to stand up to the Romans. They were forced to pay the consequences.

At dawn, around a thousand Roman War Legionaries stood in the hills east of Naples. The Naplese warriors formed outside the city to defend against the invaders. Their army, though only around eight hundred men, was benifiting from home field advantage. This was their lives. As the armies neared, the Romans up a hill and the Naplese slightly lower on the same slope, the sun rose from behind the Roman army. The bright orb that is the sun blinded the Naplese army. The Romans fired off a volley of arrows, knocking out a portion of the Naplese, and then they advanced. Though slow and predictable, the Naplese were still recovering from the sun and the volley that had been fired. They gathered together their bows and fired back a volley at the Romans. Few fell, the Naplese were scared and still partly blinded. Most arrows that did hit were deflected by the Roman's armor.

The Roman line neared the Naplese as they both geared up for the final confrontation. Mercilessly, the Romans met the Naplese. Much more trained and disciplined, the Romans pushed through and broke the Naplese lines. Many Naplese fled from certain death.

The Naplesed regroup at the crest of the last ridge remaining between the Roman army and the city of Naples. Still a few hundred remained and the Roman army was minorly wounded. The reserve formation of the Romans fired a volley at the Naplese as the front lines advanced. Just before the lines collided the Naplese general/leader surrendered his army and his city.

Orders

Expand south with 1000 men (Naples)
Increase Economy by building up the south (Naples)
Expand north with 1000 men (to the borders set by the treaty with the Etruscans)
