strategy behind UN-troops?

I've upgraded from ver. 2.2 to 2.51, and found a lot of very interesting new features. But I have a problem figuring out what's so special about the UN-troops. I can't find any strategy guide or feature-guide on how the are meant to be used.

Can anyone help me? (just the short version )

See [BTS] UN Peacekeeping Forces -mod thread. That's the mod which was converted and added to RoM after some requests. When I was merging it I only made few changes to the units' tech requirements.

I was going to ask the same thing, having finally managed to play a game into the modern era by dropping the size of the world I play on, and turning of all that research stuff I have going in the background.

However I do have one question regarding the UN-Diplomat. The information about it says that it creates a special mission only in capital cities. However the actual mission is available in any city. This means that one or the other is wrong
