And Immortals? I really don't need to explain, do I? Rush, rush , pillage, pillage, burn and win.... ( well, atleast in theory :p )

Immortals are great. They're the UU I have exploited the most and they work great with Darius' traits. You can overexpand with the opponent's cities and quickly catch up with CoL.

Navy seals are quite nice, as they can grab coast cities very easily. I like them.

You could do the same thing with the Cataphradlfaskdfa;sd or whatever you call it.

I don't get why the Landsknecht is so popular, but then I'm not a big fan of defensive UUs in general. Oromos, Cataphracts, Quechas and Immortals are all very good, and Vultures and Numid Cavalry are both quite good. Overall in terms of impact on the game I'd have to go with Cataphracts or Immortals - fast and can beat the main city defender at the time without too many losses or siege.

Except you don't get them until about 4000 years later normally:p

You're right, but Immortals come earlier, when cultural defenses are low and the cities have 1/2 archers as garrison. A lot of them will die in the process of dislodging the garrisons , but they are cheap and the survivors ( if promoted in the flanking line ) will be almost "immortal" ( really high % of survival with flanking II ). Heavily promoted Immortals will be the future Knights, Cavalry and Gunships of doom as well....

Immortals. Cossacks are still OK, as the enemy seem to build more cavalry than before, though they're a shadow of their former (dominating) selves.

Landknechts I hate, no idea why they're here. They can't do anything better than ordinary units can, they're just multi-taskers.

I voted for Oromo, mainly because it keep it's bonuses when upgraded (and it has very good bonuses). Other than that I love Landknechts, it's nice to have a multitask unit in a time when you have so much else to build than a large span of units so you can counter everything.

I usually have bad luck when I play. If I choose to play a civ that are very good attacking axemen, then I'm facing only horse civs and if I'm playing a civ that are good vs. archers, then I'm facing a civ that have good melee units.

I also voted for the Oromo because it needs no special resource (and no I don't cheat, I don't open the worldbuilder). My bad luck with civ strikes me even there. I don't get my resource so I can build my special units. I can't count how many times I have re-started because I have no horses and I'm playing Hannibal. Yesterday I played Hannibal and there was no horses on the entire continent (I had to open the worldbuilder just to verify) and I was facing Ceasar and Charlemagne, both will be able to build there special units.

Is this just me or what

PS
The same goes with units that are good in jungle. I can bet ? that I will only have 2-3 tiles of forest and the rest desert, plains and grasslands or units that are good on hills with no hills anywhere on sight.

PPS
I'm not a bad player, actually I'm quite good, my problem is that I have bad luck all the time.

Tried being me? Got BtS two days ago, first game, I play Inca (can't remember which leader, unrestricted was ON), I meet a nation I don't know, just us two on the continent, and I think "Yesplease, a short Q-rush and I have a superior advantage!" (My enemy had lots of flat grasslands, gems, rivers :king: )
Guess what units I face when my initial wave of Quecha arrive expecting an easy win? Say "Dog Soldier". Crap. I had to Beeline Machinery for Xbows to survive. I did wipe some of his cities off the map, but when I had beelined for Optics to find the other people, they were way ahead of us, so I quit

Can you say Globe Theater?

"Glou-wbee-Dhee-Ador" No, I'm sorry

...and let's see, how civs get BANNED from MP? One. The strong black man, who, apparently, when in a poll, doesn't even get his full props, and get lumped in with that joke of the unit, the vulture.

Racists, all of ya!

I like the Chokonu. With the nerf to siege weapons they are the only unit that does collateral damage *and* can kill stuff. It speeds up wars by saving the catapults from having to suicide attack so you can bombard a second or third city with the same catapults. In fact, if you spam enough Chokonus you can overcome just about anything until Rifles, due to collateral damage.

I completely agree.

Can't see anyone's mentioned the phalanx, +50% against melee and +100% against chariots. chuck in Alex's aggressive trait and as an early UU i dont think it can be beaten

I like the janissery myself. Musketman with +25% against mounted, melee and archery. They are a good all round unit. If you are first to gunpowder they are really exceptional as your opponents can't counter it with pinch promotions but you can still counter your opponents... They only thing about them is that they don't get city raider promos and you can't upgrade your CR maces to them but you can just have a stack of them guarding a stack of trebuchets if you want to take cities... so no great loss there. But they are first rate field units against pre-gunpowder opponents. After your opponents get gunpowder you want to get rifling or the grenadier tech sharpish as they are without answers against other gunpowder units.. Of course they probably aren't the BEST UU but I like them.

Objectively the best is probably the fast worker of india as its advantage begins from year 0 and stays till the game finish!

My top three in no particular order would be Samurais, Cho-Chu-Nu and Catraphacts. What makes Samurai so deadly is the extra strikes and city attack bonus, it can wipe out even knights and longbow in the city when tag with artillery or promotions. Its also good for defending. Plus their unit is so cool looking. The Cho-Ku-Nou, is just wonderful for attacking cities and huge stacks with Melee. In fact if I pair the Cho-Ku-Nu with the Samurai, it will be unstoppable! Catrapact. So big, so strong....dominations

What about Tanks? Can't they do collateral damage and kill things too? And Battleships?

I prefer the Redcoat, Really. If you're anywhere on par with the rest of the World, Redcoats with Pinch will put you over the top.

...Except ofcourse by:
Axemen ( 5:strength: vs 5:strength: = 50:50)
Catapults ( 5:strength: vs 5:strength: = 50:50)
Dog Soldiers (4+50%= 6:strength vs 5 :strength: = 55:45)
Preatorians (8 :strength: vs 5 +50% = 7,5 :strength: = 53:47)
Bowmen (4 :strength: +1 firststrike vs 5 :strength = 45:55)

Unless I got something wrong - calcs are circas.:king:

Quite strange this comment, seeing how ealy chokonu comes and that is is an UU with no comparable units in its me(meaning nice strengh + collateral dmg + killing units(BTS)).
When tanks comes, tanks you shall have. And so other CIVs ...

But yeh, not the only units. Tanks do collateral dmg anyway? Wow, should go more in end game. My games normally finish around infantry.
