Suggestions and Requests

Hey, I've been away for the last few months but I'm back on the project since 2 weeks.
So, to clarify the current status of my works:
- large refactoring of data with the help of dguenms' codebase
- Blue marble terrain addition
- new music (+ oriental music from Doc soundtrack module).
I will work on adding BUG mod and new timeline (marathon + epic). You can access this in the repository. Once the merge is done, I will make a post, it's a matter of a few days.
If you want to merge my extended timeline mod into your mod, that's fine with me

I have a suggestion. The original proto-map made for this included, IIRC, 16 more columns to the east. It might be nice to merge those with this map, that way, we could have a better representation of the Arabs as well as having Armenia and Georgia in the Caucasus, with better possibilities for Ottoman-Russian conflict. I have attached the original map.
Then the map size would be like 73x116 or something like that.
I have some experience with merging maps, I'd be happy to give it a try if you're interested.

@voigt - I merged the two maps. Now there are 16 extra tiles to the east. Provinces, city name maps, and settler maps are still not set up.

Wow, that sounds very promising indeed! This could lead to lots of new things, new civilizations, the Mongol invasion and other game mechanics. As you say, using this map will require the addition of provinces, city names and settler maps.
I've attach some screenshots of the east part of this new map.

Is it possible to shift the eastern map down 5 tiles excluding the eastern Black Sea coastline?

The map is wonderful, and thank you for merging it. However, it looks consistently off by about 5 tiles from where the original map is. The river placement was the giveaway to me, but the Caspian sea is too high up for the original layout (measuring from the Azov sea to the upper Caspian). The city of Baku is also too high up (should be level with the bottom of the Black Sea), and so is lake van, Urmia, and Sevan. It looks like everything is this way except for the immediate eastern Black Sea coastline. It should be as easy adjustment then, I think?

I think Basra or a tile for the Persian gulf would go in the bottom right.

Reworking the rivers is easier to do by hand, so those can remain with the adjustment. I’d like to do that piece and begin marking out where city names should go for Russia since I have a few atlases on hand.

I think it has something to do with distortion in the projection. Not sure.

Here's is a rough map that I worked on. Only minor edits to Russia, just the rivers so there's a lot of plains leftover. I don't know which resources should go where because of balancing. There's probably plenty of details to finalize, but the coastline is shifted.

Looks good, I would just recommend adding semidesert to the Levant and Mesopotamia. Definitely would lead to a huge improvement in the Arab game especially, but also the Turkish and Russian games. It will be cool to see Armenia and Georgia in RFCE

While working on the east extend map, why not add the Steppe terrain? It has been added to RFC DOC quite recently if I'm correct and it could be a good fit for the east Europa.

Thank you! Yes, the terrain isn’t done yet. I was burnt out after working on it for several hours. I’ll use SOI to check the terrain for those areas. It does look like Georgia and Armenia can be added to the mod with this extra space.

I’m unfamiliar with the steppe terrain, as I haven’t played DoC in some time. I’m assuming it would be akin to the moorland terrain? Also, that looks like a larger more detailed map for DoC.

Yep, I think that steppe terrain were added when the new map was released few months ago.

Thanks. I'll play around in DoC once I can figure out how actually play it.

I attached the SOI provinces file for the eastern extension of the map. Although, you can use Mesopotamia instead of Iraq if that sounds better?
Also, here is a link to Russian Empire governorates: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_.../media/File:Zapadnye_gubernii_Rossii_1917.png

I thought adding the ones above the Caucuses Mtns. would be simple enough and effective provinces.

And here is a more developed map with most of the details accounted for. I used SOI heavily as a reference for how things should look in the Middle East section of the map. It will probably still need adjusting though. In Russia I made small adjustments to rivers and added resources.

just an FYI, SOI is back under development, you guys may want to check it out or think about collaborating on some aspects since they are expanding their map westwards and you are expanding it eastwards.

Yes, but keep in mind the maps use different projections and scales.

I made some more adjustments, added a little more semidesert and reworked the eastern Caucasus a little bit. I also made Lake Urmia a salt lake.

Thank you! I worked on top of your edits and attached. I did touch up on Astrakhan's area though. I imagine the city's tile would be on (108,38), so I adjusted around from that point. The only spot I would change that you had changed was Baku's tile being desert, since I imagined it would appear there as an independent city. I left it as desert though.

Nice job! Is this an improvement over the Baron03's version? The map still seems to lack resources in north east part, and the same goes the caucasian part.
I added what I could find in textbooks and atlases, to keep things as historical as possible without overloading the area, so there should be a decent amount now. I don't think the far northeast will have a lot of settlement, aside from the rivers. Russia settles cities at a fair distance, so city placement won't be too congested.

Other than minor resource or terrain adjustments, did you want to start with settler maps? I think the coastlines are final.
