The Ancient Mediterranean MOD

Here it is! The huge map!!! After about 20 posts simply moaning about the lack of a bigger map, it is complete! It finally features Nubia, Persia, Media, and the Britons as playable civilizations. The Goths and the Illyrians have a space here, but the civ limit is reached, unless someone can tell me how to include more than 18 civs.

I've also fixed the turn limit bug (I hope) in the other maps. I've packed them all together into the map pack that's going to come with version 1.93.

Downloat the mappack here!

 You released a large map WITHOUT the Illyrians? Thamis, you know you're gonna hear it from me

Bless you my son; I am most pleased. As always appreciate your efforts. Cheers!:)

Oh my God! I do believe there will be a regicide here soon. Suggestion keep Kush and Persia and retire Medea until there is a way to bump past 18 civs;) ;) ;) .

That's what I was thinking ... from what I've read (and I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject), weren't Persia and Medes more or less similar empires?

i think the difference is comparable to Holland and Belgiums differnces.
not too much, but enough to have them separate[unless there is no room].

Uh, what's the difference :p

After 200 turns i must admit i'm laughing at loud with the huge map :

Playing as Persian, every 10/20 turns a stack of 5 to... 30 barb warriors all promoted walk upon my cities ! Thanks to Immortals i survived as far as now. Median destroyed. Babylonian destroyed and i inherited to 30 to 50 barbs that crushed the babylonians.

Just to say with such a map size and "empty room", it could be appropriated to lower barbarian hordes since the challenge imo is to be the latest to survive to have a conquest victory with 10 defensive units is one city ;)

Quite funny, whatsoever, but you need to do something about it :p

Very very nice map. Slowissimo with so much barbs, should be faster with less of them.

Yes, I need to add timber in Phoenicia. I know there are lots of things that still need changing and balancing. It's hard to keep the overview at this map size.

Nitpicks about the new HUGE map:

1) Italy isn't much bigger than the normal version. On the normal map, I could fit 6-7 cities comfortably with little overlap. On the Huge version, I can fit about 5-6 comfortably. Also, Itally seems to be missing: Marble, Horses (in sicily?), wheat and marble.

2) Britains are missing: stone, sheep, horse?, dye?, copper, pigs? and I think fur.

Do you write your posts in another language, and then use an online translater to translate them into English, and then post them?

The analogy that I would use would be the difference between Germany and Austria. Not much to anyone who isn't German or Austrian. :mischief: :mischief:

Well, I do know there's a difference between Germany and Austria, and I respect that difference, but I don't think it's as close as the difference between Persia and Medes. But, this could be because I don't know much about Persia and Medes.

But still, I feel Medes should be removed for Illyria (since Goths can arguably already be represented by Germanic Tribes).

Just to add, Italy is missing fruit as well. It now has a huge abundance of olives and less wines.

Also, would it be possible to move Macenae (sp) one space to the east, thus allowing for more expansion in Greece?

From a history standpoint:

I would like to stand up for the Medes. From I understand they could have been the ones to unite Iran and rule as Persia ended up doing (second largest empire in the region after Rome -- nothing to scoff at). I, for one, had heard of the Medes but not of Ilyrians (sorry!).

From a playing standpoint:

I think it is important to have somewhat even distribution of Civs across the map. The eastern portion of the map will be too bare without the Medes.

Places of congestion include Asia minor. I suppose since the head programmer seems to have strong opinions maybe we could get rid of the Getians... That would help the Hittites, surely, who seem like they could use a boost. Again, my impression of history (no doubt skewed) give the Hittites a more prominant role than the Getians.

Oh, and I thought I would say that since people are out there making maps:

I would love a map that went from Greece at the western-most to the Indus valley. Let's get the real emerging civilizations! That would be so awesome. You would need to create a civ for Harppa/whatever that other major city was on the Indus, but it would be so cool... I would rather cut out Greece than the Indus valley...

I have been trying to play TAM through several versions, up to 1.0.9 but keep getting messages of the type
"Tag:TECH_UTOPIA in info class was incorrect.
current XML file is: Buioldings/CIV4 buildingss infos.xml"
also comes up about gsme info/CIV4 Civic infos and
Units/CIV4 unit infos.xml

Then the game crashes!

Any suggestions???

Media was the dominant power in the region until Persia rebelled and conquered them. Nations that were at war with each other certainly warrant two different CIVs. The only CIV where you could truly argue that they should be one are Phoenicia & Carthage.

Illyria: Shqype, Illyria is in lots of other TAM maps, Persia & Media are only in one (well, in two with the one I'm going to post now). I know you love Illyria, but the Persian and Median empires were much larger and more influential.

Actually it was the Parthian Empire that gave Rome all the head aches. The Median empire was the first Iranian empire and it was destroyed long before the rise of Rome. They can easily be combined with Persia from a historical standpoint. Persia was a province of the Median Empire until the king of Persia; Cyrus the Great, rebelled against his grandfather who was the king of Media and defeated him starting the Achaemenid Dynasty; destroying the Median empire and creating the Persian Empire. The Medes always held high place in the Persian court and they intermarried very often before and after the Persian rebellion.

Are you confusing Getians with Kolcheans? I agree that maybe we should remove Kolchis from the map. Also, we should maybe come up with a central asian civ (Bactrians?), but I couldn't find a city list for them.

The reason for the barbarian hordes is that they actually have a few well-developed cities in Central Asia. I didn't think it would be that bad... I'll tone them down. Also thanks for the resource suggestions.

Delete your old TAM folder, reinstall the new version by extracting it into the your MAIN civ4 folder.
