Information & rules cut, pasted and slightly changed from The Deity Challenge Lineup:

Spoiler :
All games in this series will be set to EMPEROR difficulty. User civilizations, maps, and opponents will change each game, but the pace will always be set at standard and the starting era will always be ancient. We will try for a variety of starts, and not just having a crazy warmonger as your next door neighbor (although there will be that too). This isn't a competition so there will be no predefined victory conditions. New challenges in the series will be posted every other Friday to off set the Deity games.

Who can play?
Anybody can play. The more the merrier. Even if you normally don't play Emperor games you are still welcome to try. The games can become great learning resources for the player trying to improve. Even if you don't finish the game, we are still interested to hear about your experience.

Do's and Don'ts
We are going to be using the honor system. Feel free to restart, reload, play the same game multiple times, but don't use the science overflow exploit. Also please don't edit the game in IGE. If you do chose to cheat, please don't share your results in the comments. Also, please use the spoiler tag if you post a picture, comment about neighboring civs, close by wonders, or locations of ancient ruins.

Also, please tell us about your Build Order, Social Policies, Tech Order, and what type of wonders you went after. I know a lot of this stuff seems pretty mundane to the experienced player, but the details are incredibly useful to people trying to learn.

Future Games in the Series
I currently do not have a means to accept a map submission. I am open to request for which civs can be next, just shoot me a PM.

Decent looking start, I'll give this a shot. Never played Venice before.

Question: if you puppet a mercantile CS do you get their bonus resource?

Is that...? Could it be...? SALT?!! With a coast start on Pangea? And marble?!?!

I'm going in, captain. I'll report back after I hand out the beat-downs. This looks like a great map.

Diplo 259

Spoiler :

Settled for the mountain, BO: scout, worker, granary, warrior, scout, GLib, NatLib,caravan,HG, Colo, Workboat, Cargo's, every wonder possible.
Took Salt patheon, tithe, faith from wonders,+15 prod and preachers. Got Boro and spread the love!
Tech: Pottery,AH, mining, writing etc. Edu at around 105, I aquired Wellington around this time, then Mobassa and Tyre when the GMoV popped.
Trad complete, 2 in Exploration, complete Rat, freedom to 50% specialist, complete pat and Explore.
Oxford for Radio, later bulbed 1 to plastics, rat finisher for Refrigd. bulb to Tele etc
Think I missed the cycle by a turn, so 259 finish.
Spoiler :

CV 270 and without planning for it early and doing usual stuff like finishing aesthetics and getting the 34% tourism from towers. Would have been diplo V in 273 turns. I am not a diplo V specialist but am somewhat of a CV specialist. Had I planned for CV from day 1 it would've been quicker likely 20 turns quicker. At game end, allied with all CS, 1334 science/turn. 10K+ cash in bank.

A question on DiploV as I rarely go that route even with Venice. I made it to Globalization on turn 243 but it didn't have any effect on when the WL vote would come up and I'd have to wait 30 turns for my winning election. I thought Globalization would trigger an earlier vote?!

I took Internet after Globalization, as I was surprised no vote was coming for 30 turns.

Spoiler :
Easy game here. Settled in place. (Probably best to spend a turn and move next to mountain but I sent warrior that way and didn't want more mountain and desert tiles) Scout, scout, shrine, worker, GL.

GL on T41 aided by God King pantheon. Bulbed Philo and built NC and then wonder whored like crazy. 4 city tradition as usual. Wellington 1st, then Ormus, and then Bogota. Bogota 1st is likely better for food cargos rather than caravans.

Commerce to buying discount. A couple of landwhatevers were useful fighting barbs and quests. Oxford radio on T178 and took Order for once as so many hills in Venice for 5 year plan and wanted skyscrapers discount.

I passed the policy for 3 culture/wonder in the WC and passed Order as world ideology (although this game may not last long enuf for others to get an ideology)

T221 now and time for a break as I have 900 science/turn and can win anyway I want to. Diplo is likely quickest although my culture and tourism are good.

I'd post a screen shot if I knew how to. (Win 7 here)

Sounds pretty close to me. I moved next to the mountain though. Just to Renaissance and it's already getting out of hand with the amount of wonders I can spam. Plus religion is spreading like wildfire for all the Tithe gold for diplo victory before long just to get the game over with.

z284pwr,

It sounds like an easy win for you as well.

Please edit your post to put my quote in a spoiler as I forgot to use tags when I first posted.

Thx ... neilkaz ...

Done.

This will be quite easy indeed. I now remember how much faster standard speed games are than even Epic and how nice Info Addict is

While it seems that anyone who tried had an easy win here, I do have a question concerning Venice.

If the WC passes a vote for one of the Projects will Venice's puppets help build it?

This game I controlled the WC and made sure neither early project was passed as I didn't think that I could win it with Venice alone and wanted to build other things there.

Actually they do help build project. they will not change there current build, but after it finished they will switch to project.

Yes, and dont forget you can send hammers to Venice and/or the puppets.

With all the trade routes buy 3 city states and send food between each and the capital. That's 36-40 extra food to Venice.....yeah huge population to work hammers or specialists....no use sending hammers to the city states just use your gold to buy whatever they are producing and hopefully they'll switch to the game production. If not Venice should have enough hammers to get at least second place reward without much problem.

Played this map. Won a turn 304 DV. Thanks for the map, I enjoyed it. Might try an immortal challenge next time.

Finally did a marathon finish this next turn click fest waiting for SV on 331. Didn't wage a single war the entire game and finished 20 techs ahead of everyone else while fighting unhappiness for a bit thanks to a passed World Ideology not may own

I'd think that as Venice you'd have enough trade routes and cash that you could ally at least a few CS and have enough control of the WC that you could prevent something bad like another ideology being passed. In my game I could totally dominate the WC once I had good trade going, and that was without ever taking a Patronage policy.

The Next Turn click fest may or may not have played a roll in me just not really caring knowing the game was over. I only had 10/16 trade routes going and 2 spaceship parts left. I wasn't risking revolt and only lost 100 science. I wanted to keep Freedom just to buy the last part and get it over with.

In hindsight I could and saved a ton of turns by waiting on the Scientists. I popped them all and had 2 Merchants in the next 10 turns that could have about doubled their beaker count after buying more City States once I got their science buildings bought and waited 8 more turns.

T252 DV
Spoiler :

I almost forgot how fun it could be to build so many wonders :D Much harder to do it on deity/immo. Anyway, started peacefully growing Venice, used my 1st GMoV to get Bogota. Food caravans vice versa. Built wonders like GL, HG, HS, parthenon which are normally rarely possible on deity.

Religion - faith from salt, gold for every 4 followers, 15% growth, faith from wonders.
Policy - full tradition, rationalism, patronage. Commerce right hand tree to buy cheaper stuff.
Ideology - freedom main policies - 25% GP generation, half unhappiness and half food consumption. Got a few more towards the end of game.

2nd GMoV from Pisa - not sure if this was the best choice but I would have to stop GS generation to get it naturally sooner. I took Wellington. Proposed WF and won it later on. After that I used a natural GE on rush Taj Mahal after which my golden age never ended  Later on I burned all my GS and aimed at Globalization (Satellites 1st) to get extra votes. Needed 36 votes but got 37. Allied all CS but AI refused to sell their votes. I am not sure what gifts they want for it. Also Freedom passed as a world's ideology. It was also nice to have so much gold thanks to Cargos and so many caravan slots.

Thanks for the map :goodjob:

Nicely played sun8119.

As I don't have much experience with DV, I still question why it took so long in my game after getting Globalization to have the UN vote happen?

I guess that Globalization doesn't affect the normal cycle of the vote for World Leader?

Even though I didn't plan a CV in my game I found it to be a few turns quicker to get Internet and win a CV than to wait for the vote.

Cultural Victory at Turn 298. I made a mistake that I denounced Rome, and I can't make him open his border. This is my first CV.

Thank you for the challenge.
