The niggling things

Not a mechanical issue, but some of the tech quotes bother me to no end.

One of the cases where I find a tech quote unintentionally funny is after researching the Wheel, especially if you don't let the full quote play.

Because immediately after inventing the wheel, the first words you hear are "Don't reinvent the wheel"

The tech quotes are another good reason for turning off voices. They are bad enough without having them read out to you every time.

I enjoy them, but it's kind of annoying how the majority of the quotes either imply or outright state that your society's new innovation is a bad thing.

My problem is that I've heard them all a kajillion times. I should start changing the audio setting to French or Russian (languages I sort of understand) again....

In regular games, Sailing is a base tech with no prerequisites. In Tech & Civic Shuffle mode, it becomes a shuffled tech with prerequisites by default, and so it becomes much harder to access. Playing coastal civilisations with this game mode active becomes egregiously frustrating at times because Sailing is at best locked behind one other tech, and at worst is right at the very end of the Ancient era tree. Shuffle is one of my favourite game modes, but this problem is so frustrating that I never play it alongside a coastal civilisation. It feels as though it would be a simple fix, too, but it is beyond my ken.

That the Hall Of Fame is not saved on cloud. Had to do a total reinstall on my computer last month, lost all my scores... I DO have all my saved games, but already went through reloading them all to recreate my HOF when G&S came out, am NOT going through this again ;-(

I switched pcs recently as well. There was a document you could copy to restore your hall of fame. Its for sure not as good as cloud saving but at least a fast work around. It might be too late for you to do it this time, but maybe it will save someone else.

Edit: I think it was HallofFame.sqlite. (go to documents, my games, sid meier's civilization vi to find it, then copy it to your new pc).

Speaking of post-game things that are annoying: I can't believe that it's been - how many years is it? - yet the information window in the end of the game is still constructed with a pull-down ribbon where you have to go back to top and select each new entry to see the graphs instead of having a "next" button where you can just walk through the graphs one after another. I know the graphs are kind of unimportant, but I still feels it fun to see how things change through the game, not least to understand what causes the AI to fall behind (AI fails to construct enough new districts in the late game, probably focusing on producing units instead of make up for those that it lost).

Did I send a trade route to that city and create a trading post? Can't remember. Would be nice to look at the city banner and see...yep...trading post. Especially good for Kubai.

Isn't that actually a thing, or wasn't it at some point? Or does my memory play tricks on me?

Well, on the Switch at least, there are three states (for lack of a better word) that the city banner can be in on the list of cities to send a trade route to. One almost certainly means that there is a trading post there, and one means that there isn't one. The third likewise means that there is no trading post but logically would mean that there is a trade route in place (and so will, at some point excepting a DoW, result in one), but I'm not convinced that this actually is the case. It could just be it only updates after the turn is resolved, which is why I get the feeling that it doesn't work like that.

I guess that's another thing to add - the UI sometimes doesn't update until the end of the turn (eg resource consumption), which can be frustrating.

That Entertainment Complex are as expensive as a regular district and take a district slot. To me it should not take district slot and cost as much as Aqueduct (2/3 of a regular district) to be a little useful. (And EC boosts TS the same way Aqueduct boosts IZ.)

Another issue is you cannot see how long a trade route last unless you use a mod (without a mod they only show you how many tiles your trade route takes). As far as I know mod makers found unfinished code for the trade route interface but they never bother to finish it.

In Vanilla at least when you are selecting a new route for your traders the city banners show a trade route icon if there is one already established.
In the trade screen if there is a route in progress a trading post is not yet established (but will be upon completion). Depending on size this screen can get rather obnoxiously long and unless you keep flipping between those routes in progress and those cities without routes in can get rather cumbersome. What I would love to see is something on the city banner on the main map is an icon for Trade Post Established or Trade Route in progress (Endpoint/Startpoint). Or at the very least get a popup shot of just the current running routes much as they have for the "available routes" when an unused trader is selected.

Why is it 30 pop. Paris hosts daily steak sandwich festivals thanks to its 8 wheat and 6 cows, while Marseille down the (literal) road starves?

LET THEM EAT STEAK!

Not a mechanical issue, but some of the tech quotes bother me to no end. An astonishing number of them are painfully bad jokes that assist in breaking my immersion and nothing else, and still more are meaningless platitudes about how ruinous for the human race the tech or civic you just researched was. "Wow," you may think at any point after the Renaissance Era, "I have just discovered combustion! Surely my newfound ability to transport people faster than ever will-" and then Winston Churchill, who is quoted eight times in this game, chimes in with "Automobiles are the worst invention the human race has ever discovered and make me irrationally angry. God, I hate automobiles."

Edit: And thinking on it, some of the other quotes aren't so great either. Looking at you, Kilimanjaro. And Torre "wow this fort is strong, sure would be cool if it gave some military bonuses but it doesn't lol" de Belem is ending us off on a strong note...

I was also really annoyed by many of the quotes. I highly recommend the Proverbium mod.

With over 550 quotes, Proverbium vastly expands the amount of quotes for techs, civics, wonders, and natural wonders in the game, removing erroneous or flippant quotes and adding a bit more gravitas to the game.

Additionally, Proverbium allows for Wonders and Natural Wonders to have mutliple quotes, reducing the tedium of hearing the same quotes over and over again.

For the moment, all quote sounds have been disabled. You can re-enable the audio for unchanged quotes by modifying the mod's config file. There are plans to provide new quote audio at a future (and hopefully not too distant) date.

Should be compatible with all mods except for those that add new techs or civics.

A list of all quotes added by the mod can be found here.[docs.google.com]

Civilopedia access from the main menu.
I don't know why exactly but I can spend hours just looking through this, and it's really nice when starting a new game to closely examine the bonuses your prospective civ gets..

Also, as others have pointed out: Sean Bean is an awful narrator. I especially cringe every time he horribly mispronounces names.

You know you can turn him off? Except for the victory messages, where he talks about "how those achievements lassed".

This happens in too many games for me to ignore it - the AI should be hard coded to never send out unescorted settlers within a hex of an enemy unit. I don't think I need to say how picking up an AI's settler at turn 25 can be a game changing moment.
