The Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian): Wonders of the Orient

And congratulations for the 5.00 average rating.

It was a long game, but definitely an interesting one to play. Thanks to everyone who stayed through the whole thing, and for those of you who give the thread five stars, I'm certainly flattered :)

I've attached the beginning save (4000 BC) and the ending save (2043 AD, hit enter to win) in case anyone is interested in taking a closer look. One thing is that the custom rules don't seem to be included in the save, so you'll have to modify your civ3mod.bic file (make a backup first) and adjust the "World Sizes" settings so that Tiny maps are 32 OCN, 200 tech rate.

Here's a few (somewhat boring) screens from the replay:

Wonderful, wonderful story Sima!
One of the best, congratulations on a billiant job. I thoroughly enjoyed it, any clues as to what the theme of the next game will be?

Yeah, that was an awesome story and game there.

I will look at the saves, I love playing other's saves.

I think this story deserves to be in the Archive of Legendary Games and in the Archive of Legendary Civ Stories.

He's probably gonna start another one. You know, I think this should be added to the archives, if it isn't already. :D

Just thought I'd point out something interesting before this thread gets buried by all the new stories that are coming in. It seems like the slow tech rate (200 tech rate on a tiny map) has actually led to some interesting correspondence between the wonders in this game and in real life.

Consider the following:

The Colossus
In the game: Built in Shanghai, 875 BC
In real life: Built in Rhodes, 282 BC

The Oracle
In the game: Built in Beijing, 730 BC
In real life: Flourished at Delphi, circa 8th century BC

The Pyramids

In real life: Construction of the Giza complex, 25th century BC

The Great Lighthouse

In real life: The Pharos Lighthouse, circa 3rd century BC

The Great Wall

The Hanging Gardens

In real life: The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, circa 600 BC

Leonardo's Workshop
In the game: Built in Shanghai, 1295 AD
In real life: Birth of Leonardo da Vinci, 1452 AD

Copernicus Observatory
In the game: Built in Shanghai, 1490 AD
In real life: Birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, 1473 AD

Sistine Chapel

The United Nations

In real life: Founded after end of World War II, 1945 AD

Manhattan Project
In the game: Built in Shanghai, 2005 AD
In real life: Result of the letter to President Roosevelt, 1939 AD

Spooky, isn't it? Maybe the slow tech rate is the way the game was meant to be played :)

Not like some games, where the UN is built in like 1200 AD. I've also seen the AI win space race on deity in 800 AD, *shudders*

Very Good! I certainly did not expect the ending. (The part with the missles and the peace treaties, not required for domination) Excellent all around. I am now going to the next one. Thank you.

top notch game.
just found it, and at the same time i was planning on a SG, trying for my first ever WONDER VICTORY.
but ill probably have it on emperor or demi-god.

havent seen you in any SG, but i guess that is due to your sad lack of c3c.
i hope you get it so we can share a victory someday.

"Six. I have given them nicknames as well. We have:
- The Redeemer built in Harbin
- The Atomizer built in Nagoya
- The Incinerator built in Osaka
- The Devastator built in Edo
- The Eradicator built in Changchun
- The Decimator built in Yokohama
Did you know those last three names are copying Star Wars? IIRC, Devastator, Eridacator, and Decimator are names of Imperial Star Destroyers.
