We'd love trade, but as you see, we are somewhat land locked. If Germany doesn't mind Dutch traders through German Africa, we see no problem with that.

Generalissimo Nicholas Estuardo considers the fact that the attempt on the life of our late beloved King Alfonso XII was made in Portugal indicative of the fact the Portugal has descended into the depths of a socialist anarchy. The Portuguese governments allow socialist scum to wantonly organize in their capital, and indeed gives them safety and succor as they plot terrorist attacks against Spain.

Ban the socialist party and crack down on the so-called " Lisbon Commune" for they are a group of dangerous radicals. If you persist in allowing this cancer to percolate within the heart of your nation and metastasize to the body politic any longer than I am afraid it may make treatment impossible and result in death.

Our nations have had our differences in the past we must overcome such things and move forward for the inexorable march of progress waits not for such things. We are interested in facilitating the increase in trade goods among our African colonies, and yours, as well as cross-Pyrenees and seaborne trade between ourselves.

“That was too close” said the President’s Chief of Staff. This was not about the assassination attempt on The King of Spain’s life, but on the near impeachment of Bernardino Machado. The President of Portugal had negotiated a deal with the Democrats and the Socialists that instead of being removed from office, he would accept being censured and holding an election one year before his term was up, ‘so the people of Portugal could decide the matter for themselves’, with the winner receiving a 6 year term, instead of 5.
Three candidates emerged with a fourth trailing 15 points behind.

In the lead was Democrat Teófilo Braga at 36% (Above Left), who lead the Provisional Government after the coup on the Monarchy, a social Progressive yet also quite liberal in thought and foreign policy, He ran on a platform of Limited Women’s Suffrage, new relations with Spain and continuing the Millennium Program. Second was National Republican/ Sidonist Sidònino Pais at 34% (Above Center), a radical conservative (borderline monarchist) with ties to the military, who many felt would overthrow the government if he ever had the chance. Third was the current President and Democrat Bernardino Machado (Above Right) at 19%. Finally was the Socialist Candidate Jaime Silva at 5%, Silva was a “family” man who wanted to fight for social justice in the workplace and in the community, but many felt the progressive Democrats were much more capable of bring the same change more peacefully, albeit more slowly.
The President’s campaign manager said to Machado,
“It’s not your fault, the Spain were in charge of securing their spectators, and he was Spanish.”
“The voters won’t care; it was just the tip of the iceberg for them. With the war over the instabilities of our fledging republic have been exposed, De Arriaga knew new that, do you know how lucky we were that the Spanish declared war on Britain? We would have collapsed by now, for sure, but he saved us. He took an already hostile nation and used it to stabilize the country.” The president exhaled.
“GOD DAMN IT!” said the President, a normally reserved man, as he picked up an ink bottle on his desk and through it at the painting of Manuel De Arriaga across from him. The bottle shattered, the painting fell to the ground with red ink dripping down it.
“Why should he be the great founding father of the Republic and not me? He almost had us crushed by the strongest nations on Earth, he lost have of God Damn Mozambique; he turned the relations with Spain from bad to worse! Was he a better speaker? Or was it that he died in office? Then, in that case JUST KILL ME NOW... COME ON, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! THAT’S AN ORDER, KILL ME NOW!” The President stared angrily at his staff, and then as he took several deep breaths with water in his eyes. His stare weakened to a gaze, and he looked at the painting he had just destroyed. Finally he said,
“Call Mr. Braga, I am dropping out of the race and giving him my full endorsement.”

To: The Spainish Empire
From: Portugal

We are sorry that you feel this way, we deeply value your opinion and we shall take this into consideration when forming the new government.

Generalissimo Nicholas Estuardo had risen to become leader of Spain on a reputation for incorruptibility and hawkish nationalism combined with his sheer force of will and overpowering personality. Having gained the support of the military with his displays of courage on the field of battle and brilliant tactical and strategic moves in the Great War he had won the respect of all.

Like most European leaders Estuardo was a pupil to of von Clausewitz work Vom Kreige which advocated that war should be seen as an extension of political policy and not an end to itself. He had discussed it extensively with military strategists to ensure he understood the meaning. Clausewitz insisted that “to introduce into the philosophy of war a principle of moderation would be an act of absurdity. War is an act of violence pushed to its utmost bounds”

The rise of the Madrid Commune and the Spanish socialist had strengthened this view. He had moved quickly with the support of the military to crush the socialists and he had done so splendidly.

Yet he was not satisfied, because the Fatherland was not satisfied. The Spanish people were a wounded people. A hurt people, attacked by the British and Portuguese in the Great War, betrayed by their closest allies with notable exception to the US, and when the moment of victory came they received no spoils, only table scraps. The Spanish national pride, the Spanish consciousness was wounded, bitter, and hateful. This seemed to be an unfortunate cycle, Spain was trapped in an endless tailspin of stagnation, mediocrity, and decay. Until now.

He would not allow the Fatherland to be humiliated once more. No matter what the cost.

Loudspeakers broadcasted the national anthem schoolchildren packed ten deep, lined the pavements each holding the national flag and raising it high above their heads. Military vehicles rolled slowly down the streets mostly armored cars, and a few warker prototypes that Spain had managed to acquire. Ahead of them marched lines of Spanish soldiers while behind them artillery of various sorts was towed. The mood of the crowd was festive and the greeted the soldiers with flowers and gifts.

It was then Estuardo chose to make his address. Flanked by generals and the he climbed to the podium to address the people who had gathered here to hear him speak. “ Our work will go down in the history of mankind demonstrating that the Spanish people have now stood up. The Spanish have always been a great, courageous, and industrious nation. It is in only modern times we have fallen behind. From now on our nation will belong to the community of peace loving and the freedom loving nations of the world and work courageously and industriously, to foster it’s own civilization and well being and at the same time promote world peace and freedom."

He paused and drew a breath "Yet there are those who oppose this work, and threaten Spanish values and all they stand for. Who you ask? I will tell you! The Socialists, the Liberals, the Progressives, and the Democrats!" he roared sweeping his hand across the great square. “They are in league with the English and Portuguese! Foreign powers like vultures swoop closer in on the Fatherland! And what do these liberals, democrats, and socialists do? They help them! When our brave soldiers were on the cusp of victory they were treacherously stabbed in the back! The liberals, the democrats, the socialists are traitors! Spain's lifeblood its sweet limpieza de sangre was poured down the drain by these scum! ” cries of anger went up from the crowd

"These empty minded fools who believe in idealistic drams! They want to make Spain weak! Long have they desired the dismemberment of the Fatherland! No I say! Ours will no longer be a nation subject to insult and humiliation. We have stood up. Our Revolution has won the sympathy and acclaim of the people of all countries. We have friends all over the world. The era in which the Spanish people were regarded as weak has now ended. We shall emerge in the world as a nation with an advanced culture. We shall be strong and feared. Our work will be long and hard, our trials and travails many. Democracy has failed, liberalism has failed, and socialism has been crushed. Fascism is the way forward. Liberalism, democracy, and socialism these are the scourges afflicting our great nation! The cancer of our society! They must be crushed! Destroy their homes, burn their belongings, strike them down wherever they stand!" he shouted, “Our military will be greater than ever before! Our war machine shall be unstoppable, invincible! Spain shall be mighty and no one will dare threthan us and attack us ever again!

"And we shall triumph! And we shall conquer! The time of our rise is neigh today is the day for a new Spain a greater Spain than has ever existed before!" he lifted his hands high into the air and for one shining moment of glory the people say his vision rear up before them in all its majesty.

“This centaury will be a Spanish centaury!

The response was overwhelming. The crows roared swelling like a wave. Every man there felt his heart fill with national pride. People stamped and screamed, women and men wept.

The Spanish nation had arisen.

If you could post the details of your peace.. that'd be swell. Unless you wish for it to be secret.

This post-war world is turning out to be very interesting. All I can say is- remember, most of your nation's people (wether it be France, Spain, Germany, etc.) don't wish for another European War. So use diplomacy wisely.

After careful consideration, Germany has decided that it is in the best interests of both herself and the world that she intervene in the ongoing Russian Civil War on the side of the Monarchists.
