This thread is inspired by Moriboe's Building Made Fun wonder Petra.
Petra: +5 +5 (city must be next to a mountain AND next to or on a desert) It is unlocked with engineering.
There are a number of really great mods out there with a number of really great new things to play with. Wonders are one of those little things I get really excited about so I always love when I stumble across a particularly nice one.
Moriboe's Petra is balanced, simple, elegant, and versatile. It allows the player to turn a foodless desert city in the middle of nowhere into a productive one or make an already nice city even nicer. It frees up some tiles for other improvements (Did you need gold? Now you can take advantage of the free tiles by building trading posts. Want science instead? Keep the tiles farmed to further add to the growth.) It's a great design that lends itself to a number of playstyles. The double terrain requirement also encourages (even if only minimally) purposeful city placement as opposed to ICS and imbues the terrain with more of a sense of meaning and purpose. Most importantly it is fun!
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to come up with some new ideas for wonders/wonder effects collectively. It is unrealistic to really know which ones would work well in the game until they are actually implemented so don't be afraid that your ideas aren't balanced/good etc. Just throw anything out there!
I kicked the list off with three ideas of my own. I'll be copying and pasting submitted wonders up here in the list for ease of reading. I'll include the names of the people who thought up each one (unless otherwise requested) to give credit to the creative minds at work. Also, don't worry about duplicating the names of wonders. Feel free to come up with your own Sphinx, for example, even if someone already used the name for a wonder of their own. Thanks in advance for any contributions and to all the wonderful modders out there who make the game more fun for everyone!
The Wonder List
Sphinx: +8, unlocked with masonry, 1 great engineer point per turn (OK, so technically this one isn't a new wonder (It's just another Stonehenge) but I always felt that if you didn't get Stonehenge a cultural victory would be a nightmare (if it's even a viable option anymore.) This is unfortunate because it really limited the number of serious peaceful cultural victory contenders to 1. This wonder might spice up friendly competetion making peaceful games less boring. (I qua I)
Terracotta Army: Unit maintenence cost reduced by 50%, unlocked with chivalry, 1 great general point per turn. (might be fun deciding between cheaper armies or the more efficient one granted by Himeji.) OR reduce the cost by 25% and have it unlock at pottery (this option would be more accurate in terms of it's real-world construction I think.) (I qua I)
Hoover Dam: +3 per turn in each city, unlocked with electricity, 2 great engineer points per turn. City must be built on a river tile. (I qua I)
