To those who have, up until now, not been happy with Civ V...

 After they finish milking the fanbase, they'll re-release it as Civilization: The New World! Now more optimized than before for Dual-Core processors, Quad-Core support will be released together with the Dual Tiger Asian Civilizations DLC package at only $29.99!

How do I come to this conclusion? Napoleon Total War

EDIT: Just found out Civilization: A New World is a CiV total conversion mod by Dale!

I did not know Dale was in on that! I like his mods for Civ 4.

Played two games now, overall feeling is not particularly great for me, the transparent diplomacy confirms what i already knew, that i don't like the way the AI civilizations act, they don't aproximate anything like real nations to me, and also many of the game design decisions still don't appeal to me.

The diplomacy now feels strange, Bismark pops up and i see he covets my land but he is smiling, i can't help but feel that the original intention was that his duplicity was supposed to be hidden from me, now that it's visible it seems unconvincing that i should know such an important piece of information of how he views me without using any espionage, bit like having a free look at someone elses cards in poker, again, i can't help but feel that the diplomacy just is'nt complex enough to be made visible in this way.

Negative opinion i guess, but hopefully it answers the original poster's question of how i feel after the patch.

The patch has worked in its aim of improving the game. The strat forum has people coming up with strats that may or may not be useful instead of it being filled with replies of "just build 4 horses, all other strats suck".

People seeem suprised that the patch isnt perfect. Like it should have been made by perfect beings. That is in itself ... suprising.

Started a new game after having put down Civ 5 for more than a month. I just wanted to see what is different.

I started on continents and found that horsemen are really nerfed, well, no issue, cities can be taken with a combination of archers and swords. The only problem with this approach is that access to the cities is really not easy due to 1upt. I think that whole concept sucks big time. It's not strategy when you try and cram your units towards a city to take it.

On top of that, you cannot take many cities due to happiness. It's a slow war, tedious and crawly.

As for city production, it's still as bad as ever and now due to the lack of early specialists, you are forced to work even the lousy tiles. Bummer. I found myself slowly building libraries, markets, colloseums while buying the military units I need to fight a war.

As for relations with the AI, Greece was right away upset and I took them on first. I kept nice relations with the others and out of the blue, Arabia attacked me for whatever reason. No, I don't mind an AI to take on the human, but the Arabian war effort was abysmal. Their forces a joke. I took one of their cities and then sued for peace.

I don't know whether I continue this game as it is slow, draggy and eventless. It has totally nothing of the epic feel of the other civilization games. Overall, the nerfs did what I expected, they leave you with even less to do all in the name of game balance.

Forget it.

I had put down the game for a while. Played some Civ 4 and FfH2 just before launching the patched game so I could better compare.

I'm less disappointed than I used to be. I came to understand that this is a wargame. To play builder, Civ IV is still infinitely superior in my opinion. For immersion, the game is still worth nothing. However, the game has some value in terms of fighting it out.
It's still gamey as hell, I still hate the city states but accept them as one accepts clouds in the sky. I didn't try to disable them again yet, because pre-patch the result wasn't good.
I feel forced to ICS now since the ai settles so aggressively and with the same short-distance pattern. This is worse than before.
I didn't test the ai capacities yet, just played easy (king), so I can't comment, but the ai is rather bad at this level.
It's good that the ai finally understands the power of Research agreements. It's bad that they are overpowered.
The happiness model works slightly better but the GUI is horrible. I don't know how much (un)happiness my city contributes and whether it's wortth building another happiness building now unless I look at the city size, scroll to find all the buildings already in, add the numbers and compare.
The diplomacy is not better than before. The reasons for hating me include 'They denounced you' (so they hate me because they hate me). Also 'a friend of yours denounced you' but forget the part 'because you refused to attack them'.

It's still too gamey: city-states, natural wonders, "I play to win but I still don't know how" diplomacy, all have to go before I give it another try.
The happiness model must be changed to something decent with per-city explanation. Per-city happiness would be fine. For global happiness effects, CtP2 did nice things.

Also, the game is less stable than before. If I start through "Mods" the game will crash when reloading if I load directly from "single player". That is bad but can be circumvented. Still, losing 5 minutes everytime you try to load a game because it crashes is annoying.

Conclusion:
I'll finish my current game, because I started it and I'm stubborn, but I'll switch back to Civ IV again immediately afterwards.
