I'm probably missing something obvious but:

Where are the trait infos in the BTS XML files?

In vanilla they're in the Civilizations directory.

BTS did not add any new traits so it is using the file from <Civ4 Install Directory>/Warlords/Assets/XML/Civilizations.

For BTS the search path is BTS directory, then Warlords directory, then Vanilla directory.
