What unit skins to add

Does adding a new unit look/skin just over write what is already in your game? What if I am using a mod pack? Does it over write or do I have to load it as a seperate mod to see the skin changes?

Never made a change like this before, only done full mods so not real sure about this added skin thing.

I'd advise you to always use a mod whenever making any changes to the game. Honestly, a unit-skin change won't effect anything but you can never be too sure. You should still use a mod.
