What's your plan here?

Settings are immortal, standard, normal, no huts or events. You're Saladin and it's turn 22. I play one of the random map scripts, so the map type could be any one of pangea, terra, hemispheres, or fractal. Save and screenshot attached. What's your near-term and longer-term strategy?

I'm thinking of teching Mining->BW next because I don't see much progress without whipping and chopping. But after that?

Next question, where to settle second city (obviously, a little more exploring is necessary); I'm thinking NW of the horse, but maybe something will show up south of the stone.

How to best deal with our nearest neighbor, Justinian.

Suggestions and ideas welcome.

I was thinking NW of the Horse too.

South of the Stone might be interesting.
Make sure you dont get sealed off and dont wait too long to go up the c0ast

This is what I would have done given I'm more psychopathic than Monty itself.

Continue your plan of BW. Go for ultimate chariot rush.
I did took a peek into Justinian lands to see if his capital was on flat lands.
I grew my powers until I could get a ceasefire to give him the false impression he's safe.

Results:

3 free workers, 2 cities, marble and stone. Then go Mids and whatever wonderwhoring or strategy you like because of ample lands you got after this warring.

Indeed, chariot rush wasn't necessary at all and HA is also feasible...perhaps better.

Spoiler :

I built 13 chariots. I lost 6 of them. Let's assume the worst case I lost 10.
Ten of them means 300 sunk hammers. 2 cities plus 3 workers mean 380 gained hammers. That's a plus 80 hammers in the worst case. Now the capital has marble and gold; that's another plus that is more or less imponderable.
And the freedom in expanding and 100% success of winning from now on.
Lastly, a hidden consequence of building such army is natural barb defense from now on.
And a more hidden one is the interesting barb responses to highest military forces early game; they seem to avoid strongest civs early by some sort of sensing. Many times I've seen that. There are barbs next to me, but they picked on weaklings instead!

I'm not sure if it could be done, but a horse archer rush could be applicable. You have a fair amount of food but not a lot of commerce, so you want to get Writing and library up quickly while pushing to 3 or 4 cities, using the scientist specialist to help push your research.

You could also gamble and get to BW asap and hope you have metal then go axe rush.

I would say that going Animal Husbandry on this start is a mistake though. You could have gotten the cheaper Fishing tech and then went for BW to reduce turns spent researching while still having high food yield. If you had been luckier with scouting, choking Justinian would have been a great idea to help slow his fast settling pace.

Interesting. I was thinking about a chariot rush (or choking Justinian and waiting for a HA rush), so I guess I'm a little psychotic too. I was wondering what other people thought; I'm not sure that I see much alternative. I'll have to try it out and compare to Tachy's 1640 save.

As for fishing, I tend to think that's a distraction unless it's really needed for food or due to starting on an island. I strongly prefer to improve land tiles at this early point in the game.

Oh, and I had thought about GLH as well, but that seems pretty iffy at this point, since I don't know the state of those islands.

Fishing would be more about getting some early commerce at this stage. I'd probably go HAs since it's highly possible of continuing the warfare. Chariots look pretty much like a one shot deal here, but still pretty effective to grab up and secure your core empire. Fishing would be for HAs...not needed for Chariots, but you may want it in the near future anyway with that start.

WBs are also good little scouts
