So, which city do we capture, or do we go for a Persian city off the homeland?

Bactra. It won't be *too* badly corrupt, and it's borders will eventually meet up with ours. While their cap, Persepolis is really far away, would not be productive, and would be hard to defend from an invasion from the other continent.

I see 3 main options: Persepolis, Pasargadae and Bactra

Persepolis is their capitol and has several wonders only one of which (Sun Tzu) is not obsolete. It is currently building Smiths and with enough time before we capture it has a good chance of getting it. Good land, but the territory will not join with the rest our our Empire. Distance 24 from Olympus.

Pasargadae: Has silks in quantity, the territory will join with ours around Rome. Distance 21 from Olympus.

Bactra: Has Gems in quantity and the territory will just join with ours by Rome when both cities are at 4x expansion (the single tile gap will be closed) Good land - the Gems will give lots of commerce if we can keep corruption low enough. Distance 26 from Olympus.

It's a pity that Pompeii can not be counted as a Persian city (originally founded by Rome) as that would also claim the Gems plus some hills for additional production and link into our territory better claiming the Silks as well.

I'm currently torn between Bactra and Persepolis, Persepolis for the Wonders, Bactra for the Gems. If we razed Bactra, the spot would be a prime resettlement site - now if we could persuade the Japanese of English or Babs to settle there.....

Our FP is going where? I seem to have lost track of that discussion....

Bactra!
Best city by far

We need 10 cities to build the FP.

The calculations, assuming all tiles are railroaded and the cities are size 20, make it clear to me that Istakhr is best. It overlaps a mountain with Rome, but it's best even assuming Rome uses that mountain. The 2% or so increase in corruption in Rome and Besancon wouldn't be significant

If Istakhr were to use the mountain, it would alternate between size 20 and size 21 (ie using a specialist), and produce 48spt and 60gpt. With 37% corruption before a courthouse, and 23% after, it would be 37spt and 46gpt after a courthouse. Bactra could produce 12spt and 38gpt with a courthouse, Tyre is clearly worse, Pasargadae could produce 20spt and 43gpt with a courthouse, Antioch has less shields and gold than Istakhr and more corruption, Persepolis has terrible production (less than Pasargadae) and gold (unless the grasslands were irrigated so the coasts could be used, resulting in horrific production) (if the grasslands were mined, it could only reach size 15), and Arbela and Gordium are clearly worse than Antioch. If I were to assume size 12, Istakhr would still produce the most shields and gold. I assumed all jungle and marsh hid regular grassland, but having BGs there wouldn't change the conclusions.

Here's a picture of Istakhr:

Istakhr is the best location, since it will enhance our contiguous territory. Let's not pass up the opportunity to grab this location (formerly Antium, which lost via misinformed vote change) for a second time, please.

I had not considered Istakhar and had been looking further afield to claim a larger amount of territory, however the production figures speak for themselves. I still believe Rome was the better location when we had the choice before, but now we have the chance to have both. It will be regrettable to destroy Sun Tzu in Persepolis, but it will only save us 1 gpt in each city, Istakhar will bring in far more than that. Hopefully we can encourage Japan, England or Rome to Settle the Gems for us sometime in the future.

I choose Istakhar

 Thanks, Professor! :goodjob: And thanks for the calculations, also. Looks like Istakhar is the city to take.

We march to Istakher1

Istakhar!

On a side note, Istakhar will be taken after the first series of battles. With France (hopefully) on our side, and the northern cities pillaged, the troops around Rome will be able to "discuss" matters with the elders of Istakhar.

Yeah, discuss. That's JUST how things will go ...
