Windows XP wont boot even in safe mode.

So, what should I do? I haven't been able to participate in civfanatics offtopic for a while because my windows XP wont load, basically.

It ceases and the screen goes black right after the XP splash screen and wont load from that point on, it simply remains black.

It doesn't help that I select safe mode or previous safe settings (or whatever it was).

I sense a re-installation of an OS is in order.

Try a repair install first.

How long did you give it to load up? If you only tried for a minute or two, I suggest you let it boot and go do something else. It may be that its extremely slow, but still booting. If thats the case, its a different issue than not booting at all (though to you it'd be the same in terms of frustration)

Up to 30 minutes.

This is a long shot: Are there any USB memory stick connect to your computer? Remove them before powering up.
