XCOM 2

Can we give a shout-out to the Hobos, who were seemingly more competent than X-com? RIP Hobos, long live the hobo code.

The new mission generator that let's you create random missions has really increased the replayability factor for me. Now, I am no longer stuck to just playing a campaign and whatever missions it gives me, but I can jump in and just play a random mission any time I want.

I have been trying A Better Advent mod and other A Better mods and boy was the Forge mission quite a war zone.

Spoiler what happened? :
Basically I had the Lost dark event... and the presence of the Warlock.

My team (consisting of a granadier, his buddy the scout, a infantry, his buddy the agent, a sniper I had just gotten from the Special Forces signal and a specialist. We also had a resistance fighter thanks to the orders.

After making way through a patrol of muttons we ended up facing both the spectre zombies of the Warlock and the Lost, so the Forge ended up a zombie zone.

Then we came across our friend a priest & ADVENT spark patrol, as well the guardian Sectopod... thankfully they were dealt with.

I should mention with things blowing up (including from my lack of exercising restraint in using explosives) the Lost were legion.

When we reach the facility itself we faced lots of the Lost and the ADVENT guards including a heavy MEC. Got of my troops, the agent, got knocked out and bleeding but we recovered him, while my scout used her targeting abilities to our advantage.

As we approach the Clean Room with the Lost in front of us the Warlock decides to come to engage us personally, summoning his pet priest in the process while the Lost swam upon us.

Of course the Clean had to have a guard patrol consisting of two muttons and a spectre.

Thankfully with use of our revived agent to handle the spectre with his shotgun while the granadier helped with the muttons, aided with the scout and the sniper taking care of the priest.

In was quite a battle, especially with the Warlock being aided with his own zombies, but in the end we defeated him with gun to the face.

We got our objective out but of course ADVENT reinforcements arrived along with more Lost, not helped by the fact that ADVENT's troopers share my... lack of restraint in blowing things up.

We handled them in a rather vicious battle but manage with the resistance fighter to extract the objective.

The last ADVENT foes were a reinforcement of a priest, one of their sparks and a anti-riot MEC

The last foes we slain before all leaving were Lost and we left as a echo of the Lost was heard.

Overall: quite a objective.

I’ve started a new campaign in the new year with Grim Horizons (permanent dark events) to add some more challenge since I’ve already beaten L/I in WOTC. At first it took me about 20 attempts to get through the first month death free (playing the legacy pack on commander makes you soft lol) but now I have a good campaign going in late July.

Initial feelings are that you can easily choose the least threatening dark events so this isn’t too much more difficult (things like sealed armor are kind of a joke lol) but I imagine that once it’s November and I am facing 8 dark events it will be tough on what will then be colonels. We’ll see what happens next...

So when do we think XCOM3 will be announced? I would love a new XCOM game.
Yeah, me too man. Been losing my life and not seeing the light of day because of XCOM 2. That game can hook you and terribly frustrate you all at the same time. Have not seen all of the E3 conferences this year, but I'm guessing we did not get the announcement, am I right?

No announcement yet, but gamescom is next month. If Firaxis keep to their established release cycle there should be a new XCOM. E3 was probably too soon after the second Civ 6 expansion came out.

Yeah - last i heard was that it is likely to be either the end of the year or the first quarter of next year. Firaxis are usually quite good with release dates and they announce the release a month or so before the game actually drops. But up until that point there is radio silence.
