Just started a new game as Bismarck but turned off the two victories I always go for: Culture and Science.
I'm not a warmonger - I have the occasional spat but no major campaigns usually so I'm no expert at warfare. On exploration, Rome was just a handful of tiles away and Antium, their second city, even closer.
So I'd got a ton of units (well 7) from attacking Barbie camps so I thought it should be easy to take a pop 2 city with 7 units (5 Warriors, 2 Archers).
Did a save and practiced attacking the city from multiple angles. Came to the conclusion that very early units are largely useless for actual war and are designed for killing barbies and defence. I lost around 60% of my forces before taking the city on each try.
I sued for peace and immediately every other civ in the game I'd met up to that point DOW me, including a selection of city states. I'm playing on Warlord where DOW is pretty rare.
So, reload. Wondering when its possible to actually start fighting!
