SGOTM 23 - Phoenix Rising

St Pete has only one fish in first ring. 2 more and wheat in 2nd. We want to whip a library there asap, with OR bonus.
Riiiight ! That's a good argument !
Perhaps Yaroslavl is better off simply getting workers the next few centuries. Then it won't need a barracks either and not having religion makes 0 difference (no OR boost for workers). Im fine with spreading to St. Pete.
Chaining workers in Yaroslav is, actually, very appealing. We could get 5+ Workers in the area and still have a use for them. Maybe the city can complete the odd unit here and there (doesn't need Barracks to do so).

Are we reinforcing our Russian stack fast enough ?
That would leave Cologne (not ready) and Hamburg (almost) as dedicated Eastern military cities. Yar building a few unpromotees seems really fine.

Are we green to play ? I'd keep you informed over the military side of things.
Or are there still issues to solve ?
I have tabs opened with the micro for wonders. No written plan otherwise (but most things in mind).

Planning to lower slider when we reach Engineering. Discover tech with minimal OF beakers. Likely we'll run a few turns of 0% science slider afterwards.

Don't lower slider too much, we wouldn't want to delay banking (that's next right?). If some civs have hammers into HG then we should be able to trade for gold once we complete it. That would allow for some extra turns of research.

I can't think of any unresolved issues, but at this point I'm not the person to ask.

Healing units:
HA 25 - Move to Moscow this turn, heal in 2
HA 9 - Move to Moscow this turn, heal in 1
30, 29 & 25 - Move to Moscow next turn, promote, heal in 1
19 & 13 - Heal in place in 1

This assumes super medic is with 19&13 this turn, in Moscow next turn.

With super medic in city in revolt, HAs should heal 2.4 strength/turn.

HA9 has one extra turn to spare. IF we think it would be a good idea to attack the mystery city next turn, then 9 could also move within range this turn as backup and into Moscow next turn to heal.

Green! GO GO GO!

Ok, I'll open the save now and start with the scout move :)
Will edit this post with screenie and comments.

t101 :
Ok, I don't think we want to do it.
Spoiler :

Units set for healing.
Archer in Jerusalem sent towards Thebes/Alexandria for garrison. (?)
KK directed towards Yekat.

t102 :
Stalin is willing to negociate.
HG next turn : ok.

t103 :
KK asks that we cancel all deals with the vile Persians. Can't accept. (Silver, etc.)
Stalin is emptying Smolensk 1 unit at a time. Now a sword has left the city. Axe is on a forest 2N1E of Rostov (no roads).
Russian chariot spotted 1W of Istanbul.

Lowering the slider feels funny : about +40g/+90bpt

Chinese defences :

Questions :
Mehmed / Mao war is not working : both lack OB with India and Persia. Mehmed sends his units through our territory. Mao only has OB with Stalin... Need to react ? Not reacted yet. Mehmed borders Cologne and Jerusalem.

Mehmed would make peace and give us 20g for any 2 of these 3 techs : Calendar, Monarchy and HBR.
It's about the same with Mao (a bit more expensive, maybe). We have Currency, Monarchy, HBR, MC, Poly over him.
MC and Poly are enough. Otherwise, it's 2 of Currency, Monarchy and HBR.

Maybe we should stop on this turn and ponder the Chinese situation ?
Mehmed already has Metal Casting. We can only gift him Machinery, which we shouldn't :D

Yes, we need to stop. Berlin doesn't match my notes. Not sure why that is. The city lacks 3F.

I'll use this post and edit.
Is asking KK to target Yekaterinburg still fine ?
Yes.

Definitely avoid Smolensk. But at least his army is there and not in Novgorod. Maybe a good thing.
Oops : not discussed. Is it fine if Workboat from Gemmy improves the Fish for Cologne ?
Cologne has had its camp espionaged.
I agree with this.
t102 :
Stalin is willing to negociate.

Questions :
Offer cease-fire ?
I'll defer to people who have been waging the war and have a better idea, but my initial thought is to wait until we've captured Novgorod. We still have 10 or so HAs in the area. With so many units in Smolensk, Novgorod might be poorly defended.

Mehmed/Mao: Yes, probably stop China/Ottoman war. Mehmed doesn't like us though, is there any danger of a dagger on us if he signs peace with China? That would be disastrous.

Lol at 5 units in a pop 1 city. Ok, we don't want to attack it. But there might be a counter attack heading our way from there... Pillage road 3S of Moscow next turn? Not sure if that helps at all, maybe only slows us down later.

I'd still send workboat to Athens. Athens is much more important and we need it big asap. Cologne has workboat in 4 turns. But if you both think it's better with Cologne then...

I'd also like to take Novgorod before cease fire.

Oh wow... how did that Mehmed Mao war really start? Did we start it? Mao is now building units but can't send them out. Probably best to stop the war somehow. Our eastern scout can get vision on Beijing this turn, right?

Stalin doesn't have anything he could bribe Memed with. Mehmed dislikes almost everybody. I think the risk is very small that he would attack us.

Would we rather give Mehmed MC and hope he builds us some forges? Would MC alone work for peace?

Ok, so Mehmed got MC between turns. Maybe MC+Poly to Mao? He's not the worst enemy of anyone, at least not T101. Any downside with him getting those techs?

Yeah, I'm uploading right now.
There are a few bad things we didn't foresee.
HG growths : 2 unhappies in Alexandria. 2 unimproved tiles worked in Jerusalem (and I took the liberty to start an archer, there...).
Probably some other things.

And Berlin needs some check up for the MoM. Either my notes were wrong (maths!!) or I messed up (despite multi-checking every turn). City misses 3 food. It's like I worked a grassland mine instead of the cows... Is that even possible ? Maybe it is...
And finally there's the Chinese/Ottoman issue.

Whip a worker in Jerusalem.

Yaroslavl: Put a turn into worker. Archer will finish with chop next turn anyway. This way we can whip it one turn sooner. (Archer shouldn't have been started at all)

Hamburg: Surely it's worth getting a forge here with so much food. IMO whip it before completing barracks.

Rostov: Just came out of revolt, but remember to switch to granary --> whip (I assume).

Paris: Working a poor cottage now (and specialists) after growing, remember to switch tiles here.

Athens: forge -> Moai I think.

To keep track of russian units I suggest making notes as we did in beginning. For instance "Russian Axe T-X". Easier for those not playing the turns to keep track. They might venture into fog.

Berlin:
It's a tricky turn when HG completes. Since Athens was in our possession before Berlin, HG completes and takes effect before Berlin is processed. At that time, Berlins pop goes up, food bin grows by 2 and the new pop could have been assigned to grasshill mine for -1 food surplus. Could this be what happened?

Btw. very nice increase in score! :goodjob:

Worker in Jerusalem is a nice solution to the 2 unimproved tiles, yes !

Well, the Archer in Yaroslav goes garrison St Petersburg... I'm not sure we want a Worker first.

Hamburg : yes, Forge first could make a lot of sense. (Optimal city development to be compared with army reinforcement)

Rostov : doesn't it have a granary already ?

@ MoM :
Yes, that's definitely a reason why the real game would differ from my tests !!!! It still sucks but now I feel better :D

@ Increase in score :
Sure ^^ That's our 19 cities Hanging Gardens for us.
It's also the mounted warfare at work. The drawback being how under-developped we are at the moment : our gold production is oh-so very low.

@ What about Alexandria ?
Closest garrison unit is very far away. Can we give it the Representation bonus by whipping another city ? That would be a very convenient way around the 2 angries.

@ Tracking Russian units :
Sure thing.

@ Paris : not managed, yet.
@ Athens : prolly should go Forge, yes.

Well, the Archer in Yaroslav goes garrison St Petersburg... I'm not sure we want a Worker first.
We don't want the worker first, but the point is that the archer is a 1T build anyway when the chop completes. If we put a turn into worker now we can whip it immediately after the archer.

Forgot about the granary in Rostov. Whip courthouse? Maybe whipping a worker is best here as well? We really need them. Both for chopping forests and for improving territory (and changing improvements for GA).

We can 2-pop whip mace in SH. This would give representation to Alexandria I think. (Double-checking soon)

Many Courthouses are +4gpt. We should probably spam them.
Give us Courthouses everywhere and we're doing a fat +100gpt (still not great ; no commerce base, we have).

Chop Archer comes too late for St Pet.
If we're not using our HAs, it would make sense. If we're using them, we need to whip the Archer.
I'm not too sure, will need to check.

Yaroslav whips archer, yes.

Rostov whipping worker could very well be the best option available. Forests factored and all.

We're whipping all 3 maces this turn.

X-Post :
Oooh X-Bows... lovely units. Strong counter.
I need to rest, now.

Rostov could also whip a Xbow to take care of those wandering Russian metal units and let more of our HA army advance east. Backup HAs from France will arrive in time to take care of sword, if sword takes same path as his axe. If both his units move next to Rostov, they won't be of any help.

Athens Forge->Moai. Now it's a crappy situation with workboats. Need 2 turns of travel to get to Athens from Cologne. New Gemmy workboat could get to Athens faster than that, but then it's long travel from Cologne to Gemmy.

Looks like I have missed all the fun. :( Need to catch up but super tired. Long night.
