Following the latest patch, I am in the middle of the first Civ5 game I have played for months. Most enjoyable it is too. I agree with pretty much all the points made above, though I dont mind not having explorers. I quite enjoy the map not being completely revealed until late in the game...
Dale, you make some good points (as did Sulla). I definitely feel the lack of immersion, but hadn't realised the maths discrepancy.
With your knowledge of how things work behind the scenes, are you hopefull that these problems will be resolved (without the aid of mods)?
One big problem that doesn't seem to be addressed is ICS. Is there anything here that suggests the single best strategy will not continue to be to make loads of smallish (4 pop) cities?
I would have liked a "Not yet..." option, as I have 3 friends waiting to buy after multiplayer and AI patches have been applied...
Civ 5 should be good when it is finished.
Dale, I know there are lots of things that you are not allowed to comment about, but what the report that the AI in the press review build was stronger than the release build? Would you understand why a reviewer might say this? :)
Oh yeah, a great review Afforess. :goodjob:
Yep, pre-ordered and it was dispatched yesterday but it hasn't arrived yet, so it will probably be Monday.
On the up-side, today I received an email from Amazon that I wasn't expecting, giving me a code to obtain an 'exclusive in-game map" :goodjob:
I see that Gregg has now posted what appears to be the official confirmation of this fix on the 2K forums.

Unfortunately, the details don't match those posted here exactly, specificially the reference to Open Borders is not listed...
Lemmy, PM a mod and ask them to move your..um first impressions/review back to the General Discussions forum. It was the most entertaining read on the forum yesterday, and restored the balance in a positive way in contrast with the negative threads here. :goodjob:
Thanks for the link, I have just registered with 2k forums to post a comment to 'vote' for an animation option in MP.
I am sure you are right, the official forum will carry more weight than here. Anyone else disappointed by MP should consider doing the same.
