Why hasnt anyone told me about this game!

I am another late arrival at Civ IV - never played any earlier Civs. Metacritic is a good place to find excellent games you may have overlooked (not that I'll need to find another game for the next 2 years or so) http://www.metacritic.com/games/pc/scores/ Cheers, O.F.A.P.

    Another noob question about roads?

If (like me) you struggle a bit with the complexities because you are new to the game, 'build trade network' is a good option for your worker. It will build the necessary roads without micro-management, but it WON'T destroy improvements needlessley the way full automation does. Cheers, O.F.A.P.

Coming back after 2 years have some questions

I can recommend the BUG mod which enhances the user interface but doesn't change the game play Cheers

    Civilization 5 Poll

I've only just started CivIV, and it is brilliant, so for me 2 years time would be about right (I played GalCivII for 2.5 years before starting on CivIV)

Getting back into Civ4 - few questions

I'm only on my second game so I'll leave others to reply to most of your points. But I can recommend the BUG mod which allows you to tweak the interface. Very nice. It doesn't affect gameplay in any way. Cheers

    Save Games Transportable?

If you start moving save games between computers, just be careful with your quicksave, as you only have one of those. So if you end up playing different games on 2 different computers (as I do), copying the quicksave to anothe rmachine will over-write the quicksave on that machine.

    Trade Routes?

I'm new to this game, and I had some basic questions that I spent ages searching that 'newbie questions' thread for answers to. The search has a number of major limitations built into it, which makes it slow and frustrating. After a great deal of searching, I gave up, and posted a couple of...

How do I destroy improvements? (new player!)

Brilliant stuff, ta. As a newby, I think my main error has been move to a tile and look for a suitable action straight away - instead of waiting till next turn and then checking available actions. I haven't tried espionage yet (I'm 6 hours into my first game) but it sounds like a rich area -...

    Buy or Not To Buy??

Hiya I'm 55, have just bought CivIV and have not played any previous Civilization game. My take is that CivIV is very well suited to older players, because it is turn based and not real time. I don't actually enjoy the constant gnawing pressure of a real time game - even Sins of a Solar...

How do I destroy improvements? (new player!)

Hello there... I'm OK with attacking cities (thanks to some help here) but I can't seem to destroy the improvements that other Civs have built - although they can destroy mine. For example, cottages or mines. If I move my troops onto an enemy's improved tile, even if I am at war with...

How do I locate my units? (New player!)

yes, already I really like the RPG-style the way that warrior units gain experience points which you can send on upgrades - great! Thanks all

How do I locate my units? (New player!)

Hello there... Thanks v much for these helpful replies. Attack is clearly one area that is VERY different from GalCivII. In that game it is suicidal to attack using single ships - it is the combined make-up of a fleet that is important. So basically, any attack is resolved as a series of 1...
