Muddy Waters, "John the Conqueror Root". It was released as a single in I believe '63 or '64, but it was released as a bonus track in the "Folk Singer" rerelease, which is how I have it. It's a neat song in my book because it's a more moving (albeit less powerful) adaptation of the "Hoochie Coochie Man" beat with elements of Howlin' Wolf's "Backdoor Man" narrative thrown in (particularly the judge's wife crying verse). It's just a lot of fun. Really hearkening back to Muddy's "bad-man" songs of the late 40s and early 50s.
